Mine doesn't. I have a Northern CA cell but I live in Southern CA.
It has never been a problem until last night. I was waiting around for hours for a call back from an advice nurse. I called back and they told me that a nurse wasn't able to return my call because my phone number was out of state. Um...ok?

Mine is local, my husband's is still his Maryland number... and we've been here 7 years.

I actually never lived in the state my cell is from! I have a DE number. My brother and I started a family plan together while he was living there. I've never had an issue with it.

Mine is from back east and I am in the midwest now, it is not usually an issue. When we had Comcast they would get grumpy about it because your call is routed by your phone number so we would get people in Pennsylvania and then need to be transferred and for whatever reason that really confused them.
Poison Control is also done that way but that is not really an issue and it was only obvious because the woman I spoke with had the thickest Philadelphia accent I had ever heard!

No. I moved to Portland for almost 2 years before coming back to WA. I haven't changed it and we have been back 2.5 years.

@tequiero21: I'm sure we could have done that if we really tried. But part of the reason for the new plan was I had a slightly stalkerish ex boyfriend and needed a new number. And I was in college at the time and didn't know where I would end up when I graduated anyway so I just got a DE number.

Mine is local to Philadelphia, which is where we live. About 5 years ago, I changed it from my Pittsburgh number, and I hadn't lived in Pittsburgh for 7 years. But I never had a problem not having a local number. I only changed it because I switched carriers.

mine is now local to where i live
the weird thing is, when i first got it, it didn't match my area code - for some reason they were giving out different area codes for cells than landlines where i grew up
but, now i live where my area codes match up!

No. I still have the same number I had in college in Northern CA. I've lived in Southern CA and now in WA since then. The only time I've ever experienced issues was when I would call Comcast for customer service and I had to enter my cell phone #. They would always route me to Northern CA instead of WA.

When I moved to Philadelphia 7 or so years ago I kept my New Orleans area code. 3 years ago I changed it to a Philly area code (new carrier). 2 years ago DH and I moved to Pittsburgh, and now we're in the Harrisburg area, both of us with Philly area codes.
I haven't had much of a problem with it yet, except to confuse some people around here who automatically assume I have a 717 area code, and have to go back and change it when they're typing in my number.

i don't match. i got my cell phone number in high school when i lived at my parents' house and that was over 12 years ago! i live three counties away now. when i lived in LA, no one really had LA area codes.

Nope! My area code is from where I grew up (Oklahoma), but I live in Texas. I don't plan on changing my number since I was on a family plan from eons ago and it's just cheaper this way.

My office doesn't have long distance because the suite of offices we are in charges an obscene amount for it. So, if our clients have long distance numbers we have to use our cell phones. I have a local number. I wish everyone did

Nope! Mine is from MN, and I live in WA. It confuses everyone too if they dont look close enough because the first and third number in the area code are the same numbers as the area code here. So some poor girl get my calls every now and again.

I had a northern Iowa number forever, despite living in eastern Iowa. I finally got my own number a couple of months ago and I finally have a matching area code!

Mine matches where I live but mainly because I didn't get a cell phone until around 10 years ago and haven't moved out of the area code. I think now that you can take your number with you people tend not to want to go through the hassle of notifying everyone of a number change so they just keep their old number.

No. I have a west coast number but live on the east coast. The only time it's ever a problem is when I get spam type calls at night and the caller thinks it's only the evening.

Mine matches. So, if you move and get a new cell phone plan, you can keep your old area code? That doesn't make you have to pay LD when you make local calls?

Oh dear. That's weird that she couldn't call back. I have a Boston cell phone #, but I live in Cali right now. It causes problems occasionally when people think it's an east coast phone # and call me ridiculously early in the morning on Pacific time.

I live in TX and have a GA number. I've had the same number since I was 14 and I don't want to change it. My husband has a LA number. He has had his for as long as I've had mine.
