@Orchid: my 2.5 year old gets upset (sometimes cries sometimes gets mad) in situations like this. Today he threw puzzle pieces because he was frustrated. I gently reminded him that I could help if he needed it and we can't put the puzzle together if the pieces are on the floor. He also gets upset about the exact same situations you mentioned. I try to just let him know I understand it's frustrating and encourage him to try again or try to put something different in the dump truck. One day he experimented to see which cars fit inside his transporter truck! I try not to help too much but sometimes he likes that too.

My 2nd child is like this. And has been since she was only like 8 months old. She gets EXTREMELY upset when she can't do something, or reach something, or figure something out. She will scream and throw herself to the floor.

She's very emotional in general.

Yes; I have a 23 mo old and she def gets frustrated when she can't do something!

@Orchid: I feel like all my parenting tips are "There's a Daniel Tiger episode about this!" but... there's a Daniel Tiger episode about this. It actually does seem to help my 3 year old. The song is "When you're feeling frustrated, take a step back and ask for help." She does remember to ask for help a lot now! Before that, her usual move was to lay face down on the front doormat and wail so this is major progress.
