My 4yo knows that babies grow in mommies tummies and that you go to the hospital so the doctor can take the baby out. No details requested on exactly how babies get out, thank goodness! Once he asked if mommies ate the babies and that's how they got inside, but I just said no, they're not exactly in the tummy but somewhere else, and he was satisfied. He also asked why only mommies have babies and I said daddies bodies don't have space to hold them

She asks a lot of questions about this stuff. I told her that the daddy has a "fish" and the mummy has an egg and that to make a baby, the fish swims to the egg and together they make a baby inside mummy's tummy. She knows the baby comes out of the vagina or tummy (I had c-sections) when it is grown. Thank goodness she hasn't asked me how the fish gets inside the mummy yet because I really don't want to have that conversation.

My son has asked how the baby got in my tummy and I said God put it in there hhaha
My doctor recommended the book "what makes a baby" and we read it in the doctors office and it was very good. She said at this as, she encourages us to be very factual in our answers. So the book talks about egg and sperm and they meet to grow a baby. I ordered it from Amazon and will read it to Cobi. He has a very curious mind and I think he'll like knowing the truth.

My almost 3 y/o knows that mommies grow babies in their tummies. She is quite fascinated with the babe in my tummy right now. She knows that we have to go to the hospital and then baby will come out. She asked if it will come out my mouth and after I said no, she didn't ask any further questions. Phew!

She knows where babies live/grow and how they come out, but not how they get in. She knows that I had a c-section (or, as she says "the doctor gave you a little cut that didn't hurt and then I came out") and that the alternative is vaginal birth.

My LO, age 3, asked me how the baby gets out in front of several people in Target yesterday! I said the doctor helps the baby came out, and he was like "from where?" and I just said "from my tummy" and he wouldn't stop! How does it come out of your tummy? He poked really hard at my belly button and I said yes and then laughed and wouldn't talk about it anymore 
Mom fail! But I was not about to try to explain vaginal birth to my toddler in front of strangers, or probably in any circumstance. Nope. Here, have some Skittles!!

Yup. And my 4yo will tell you if you will listen that the "baby is in mommy's utrus (close enough!), gets food from the bilical cord and will come out of mommy's vagina". She wil also gladly describe breast feeding! 
she doesn't know how babies are made though!!

@Mrs. Pen: we used the "God put you there to grow from a tiny egg".
So far she's been fine just knowing mommy goes to the hospital and the doctor helps get the baby out.

DD (3) knows that babies grow in mommies tummies, but she also thinks that they "pop" out of their belly buttons... I haven't corrected her yet. It's funny because she was in the room when her brother was born. She obviously wasn't paying attention.

DS is three and knows that babies grow in a mommies tummy and that the doctor takes them out.
We talked about this a lot as my sister has a 5 month old. After she was born he asked if the doctor was going to put her back in.
I dread the day of asking how the baby gets in.

He knew that Gracie grew in my belly and when she got big enough I went to the doctor and they cut her out and I had an owie on my belly that he couldn't touch. He thinks he came out the same way (he didn't, he was vaginal). As far as that's concerned we're planning on answering his questions as they come up, but he hasn't shown any interest yet.
Funny story, though. My youngest nephew was about 5 when I was pregnant with Ev. I was about 8 months pregnant at my baby shower, and he ran up to try to jump on me, and my SIL told him he had to give me gentle hugs so he wouldn't hurt the baby in my tummy. He put his hands on my stomach and stared at it for a few seconds, then gave me a very accusing look at said "Aunt Sarah, WHY did you EAT the baby?!?!?!?" I laughed so hard I'm surprised I didn't put myself into labor

My almost 4 year old knows in my situation her sister 'was cut from mommy's tummy." Not exactly the definition I would have given, but that's what she tells people. So I guess we dodge a bullet with the other explanation for the time being.

Lo is 2 and knows that there's a baby in my tummy. We had a funny conversation about it that went something like this:
LO: "mama's baby is in tummy. where's daddy's baby?"
me: "in my tummy. daddy and I made the baby together"
LO: "me too. I made the baby too"

At 5, yes she knows the female body part. Say it with me--
She also knows dad has something to do with it. I mainly focus on the point that it is growing in the tummy if we discuss it.
I hope the subject doesn't come up when she starts kindergarten but at least she will be informed. I thought babies came from your belly button for a loooong time. Too long.

DD knows she was inside my tummy before she was born. We were really surprised when she insisted that baby lambs come from daddy lambs tummies! Her preschool had a field trip to a local farm with baby sheep and a pregnant sheep. For some reason she now has it in her head (there's no talking her out of it) that babies are inside daddies.

DD is 2.5 and is super interested in this since I'm pregnant... We told her that babies grow in mommies tummies and the doctor will take them out at the hospital after a long, long time. She has been to a farm and seen horses, etc. with babies in the tummy, and understands that other animals grow their baby in an egg outside of the tummy. She hasn't asked about how babies get in the tummy and I don't have a good idea of what I will tell her when she asks- hopefully I will figure out something by looking at everyone else's answer hahaha.

When we told our 2 year old I was pregnant and her baby brother was in my tummy she said "You ATE the baby?!?"
She knows he grew in my tummy and he came out through a cut the doctor gave me at the hospital but that's sort of the extent of her knowledge.

My almost 4 year old knows that babies grow in their mommies' tummies and the doctor helps get them out at the hospital. He also seems to think if the baby in my belly is a girl the doctor can put her back. lol

@sorrycharlie: my 4.5 year old knows that babies grow in the tummy and also knows that a doctor can cut the baby out or the mom can push the baby out. Thats about it. she doesnt understand how they baby gets in the belly but thats ok with me hahaha
