I have to beg to get my daughter to let me do her hair. Ponytails, braids, pigtails -- they all look great on her! But she usually screams when I try to put her hair up. Every once in a while I get her on a good day, and she agrees to having her hair done.

Distraction is key! Sadie doesn't have much hair, but if I throw her a few things she doesn't normally get to play with, she'll sit still long enough to do a pony or pigtails.

Yes, but it took a long time...I think she was after 2!? She asks for bows and ponytails a lot. I need to watch some tutorials on braids!

DD is almost 20 months and very tolerant of hairdos. She asks for bows. Thank goodness because she is a wild animal with her hair down.

@photojane: That works for us sometimes... but she's often too smart and knows what I'm trying to do.
@mediagirl: Ugh -- mine has taken to yanking out just one of her pigtails... usually while we're out of the house. She ends up looking ridiculous! -
My dd is 18 months and she usually will only let me if she's in her high chair. If I put any bows or barrettes she rips them out immediately. I'm just hoping it gets better.

@skibobrown: No, she'll be 3 next month and is just as bad! She tolerated it when she was a baby until around 1.5-2. Now she screams so loud I wonder what the neighbors think. It's a major battle!

My LO goes through phases. She will usually let me if she is eating or watching something on tv. She used to let me do it when she was brushing her teeth, but that no longer works.
Also, if I pull her hair, as I did this morning trying to get dried crud out of it (yuck!), then I am totally on her shit list and she won't let me near her. I don't blame her, but it becomes an issue because she doesn't have bangs and her hair MUST be pulled back in some way or she won't be able to see. I usually have to wrestle in a rubber band and her hair is back but looking crazy. On good days, she has nice braids or pigtails.

@skibobrown: Distraction works for us as well. She's 3 and her hair is about half way down her back. I won't say that she leaves it alone and half the time she comes home from daycare looking like a little tornado. But she has her hair fixed every morning when I drop her off.

Yes, but I think she's just used to it! She was born with loads of hair so she's worn a clip of some form in her hair since she was a few weeks old. She has crazy hair (very thick, wavy, long, and prone to excessive volume!) that is always in her face if it's not pulled back, so she's pretty happy for me to do her hair multiple times per day. She's 26 months but has never really protested her hair being fixed.

She used to be fine with hairbands and then started hating them. She ahs recently started asking fir them again though. Yay!

Yes, but then she will pull everything out within an hour, so it isn't even worth it. She even asked for a ponytail and yanked it out before I could get us out the door.

Lately yes! We still have to tell her no if she tries to pull them out. Most days her teachers have to redo it. She won't wear a headband.
I just realized that she came home without the hair clip I sent her in. Boo!

No, but they never stay in. As soon as she's in her car seat or ready for nap she takes them out.

She might let me 9 out of 10 times. Her response is usually "no, Ms Katie do my hair!". Sigh. Ms Katie is her teacher which she just moved rooms. So that means her hair will look ridiculous 95% of the time.

DD is 22m and only recently stopped enjoying hair going up! Also the same timing her curls really popped up, thankfully she likes headbands now, especially headband/bandana thing, this Momma can't handle the crazy curly hair down!
