My parents are really pushing potty training and they "remind" me about it every time we talk on the phone. They can't believe LO 2 is 2 years + 4 months and still in diapers...I am getting sick of hearing about it!

Not really behind exactly, but I feel you on the potty training. My mom mentions nonstop that she thinks my LO is ready for potty training...and he won't even be 2 until November! That's totally not on my radar right now with a 3 week old at home

@autumnlove: same! Except my LO isn't even 2 yet! Apart from that, they are surprised her speech isn't better. (I think it's pretty good compared to kids her own age!) Oh and that she can't draw people yet...only lines and squiggles!

Yes. But they are all comparing her to her older brother who was exceptionally advanced in everything. I just remind them that all kids do things in their own time and our doc isn't worried about anything and neither should we. She's fine, just different from her brother.

No, my mom thinks my kids are brilliant, gifted, geniuses who can do no wrong, haha. I don't know what my in-laws think, although I know they were frustrated by how slowly my kids took to solids. They also tell me quite often how one of my kids seems really advanced. To me that implies that the other is not, which pisses me off because they are both totally normal and they are twins and probably will have to deal with comparisons for the rest of their lives. I think everyone was previously worried about my son's size because he was born unexpectedly small at 4 lb 15 oz, but he has more than made up for that now!

My mom is always telling me that DD2 is ready to be totally trained (21 months) and reminds me that I was trained at 20 months. She's definitely ready, but I just don't have the energy right now!

Yup! Same as you - potty training. I was supposedly potty trained at 10 months and my brother was at 18 months. Same time frame with my two younger cousins so they think DS is way behind being 2 years old now.

No. Occasionally I get comparisons by the ILs to my nieces, but I know that goes both ways and they are just proud. Mostly what I get "reminders" about is that MIL had her kids 18 months apart (I'm not sure if this is to tell me how easy it must be that my kids are further apart, or encourage me to have my kiddos closer together, but it's annoying either way.)

I'm SURE my MIL thinks DS is behind with potty training (he just turned 2 and I haven't even attempted yet). She always like to bring up the fact that she had my husband fully potty trained at 15 months old, like that's the norm. Every time I tell her that most of my friend's kids weren't potty trained until closer to 2.5-3, she acts like that's such a hard thing to believe.

@illumina: They actually think your not even 2 year old is behind because she can't draw PEOPLE? Ha... I can barely even draw a person. My 2 year old will draw a line and just scribbles on the paper for about 2 seconds before declaring "all done!" So I guess he's really behind.

Funny story, my mom thought we should potty train Ds at like 1 year because she supposedly did with us well before 18 months (via elimination communication). She even bought us a kiddie potty.
Fast forward to when we trained Ds at a few months before 2.5, and now at 2y9m Ds is fully trained, night trained, wakes to pee motn (if need be) on his own and goes to the potty on his own all day (if we're home and aside from asking for a wipe for #2) and she thinks he's SO advanced.

They compare DD2 to her older sister. MIL always says things like, "When DD1 was 22 months, she was already doing and saying xyz. How come DD2 can't do it yet?"
Psh.
