My mom has the Whirlpool duet and has found mold.
We have 5 yr old Samsung's and I have never found mold - I do leave the door open and clean out the soap dispenser 1 time per month

The only place that gets mouldy is the soap dispenser and I just clean it with a toothbrush and bleach every month or so. I worked at a furniture and appliance store, they recommend you leave the door open when not in use. It's water tight (obviously) so keeping it closed keeps the moisture in and leads to mold.

We have had Whirlpool Duets for a couple years and haven't had stink or mold. We leave the door and soap dispensers open and scrub the dispensers occasionally. We also do the cleaning cycle at least once a month.

The soap dispenser gets moldy so I have to clean it out.

No, we have a Whirlpool, no mold - but I am religious about keeping the door open and the dispenser clean. I also run the cleaning cycle on it every month.

No mold here. We leave the door open when it's not in use, it's a whirlpool!

@pinkcupcake: ooooh, once a month!? I should do that more often. I think I do ours every 3 - 4 months. But now that seems insane!
I do keep our door open and haven't found any mold yet.

ours got stinky before, but then i cleaned it and now i leave the door open and i've started washing with warm occasionally (i read only washing with cold contributes to mold because the hot can kill stuff that's growing). ours is frigidaire/electrolux

We have GE and haven't found mold; I don't use the soap dispenser though, and I always leave the door open for a while afterwards. I also have those drum cleaning things from Tide.

We have an older Whirlpool Duet that we bought used -- probably from the time period where these machines were the most problematic! I have noticed a small amount of mildew in the seals on the door. We always leave the doors open when not in use. I often forget to leave the detergent dispenser open, but I need to be better about that!

I have Whirlpool and have found mold in the soap dispenser. Yuck! I do leave the door open to air out so no mold in there. Not to my knowledge at least. However, my washer does have a steam feature, but I bought it in 2008....

@.twist.: Yes, I do it pretty often, but it's because I did find mold in our older washing machine so I'm now crazy about making sure this one stays clean! I just do it on the first of each month so it's easy to remember. Which reminds me, I haven't done it this month yet

We have the Whirlpool but keep the door open and the soap dispenser clean so we haven't had any mold issues. I say we but DH does the laundry. I love him so much.

I have LG machines. I leave the door and detergent dispenser open when not in use. I've never found any mold in 3.5 years!

We do have old in the rubber sealing part that I haven't cleaned well, and I found it in the soap dispenser area but did clean that. I thought, and still think, it's our fault for not leaving it open or cleaning it will-- it's in closet off the living room and you can't close the door to the closet with the washer open, and i forget to open it when we go to bed. But it's a Bosch Axxis, so it is included in the suit!

I have an LG that smells musty sometimes but I've never noticed actual mold growing. Whenever I think of it, I do a cleaning cycle with the Tide packets and then it smells fine again for a while.

We have Whirlpool Duet and on occassion the rubber gasket on the door gets moldy. I scrub it out and then run a cleaning cycle. I keep the door open but DS discovered it is a great place to hide toys and kept closing it. We now have a gate blocking it off.
