No idea why mine does this but when it gets dark around the slide it won't let me swipe to unlock. I have to totally power down and restart to unlock it ??

Do you try locking it, then unlocking it?
Have you restart it recently? Not on/off, but where you hold the lock and home button down at the same time.

Weird. I've never seen it and I feel like I've seen everything with working in tech support. However I agree with @Crystal: you should try a hard reset. Also it could be a problem with the digitizer (hopefully not!)

@coacheswife123: I think you can also get around "unlock to slide" problems by calling your phone from another phone...
Hopefully the Genius Bar can find a long term fix!
