I don't have any sisters, so my two best friends are Auntie Audrey and Auntie Lulu. He doesn't really call anyone anything (besides mama, dada and kitty) at this point, so I'm not sure.

@autumnlove: that's good to know! I wouldn't ask him to call them anything he didn't want to

I have an aunt and uncle who aren't actually related to us. We still call them aunt & uncle, and their son is my cousin.. Except they aren't lol

Chloe calls my sisters boyfriend "uncle".
We consider my husbands best friend "uncle", too.

Other adults go by their first name only.

It's pretty common for kids in this area to call their parents' friends Ms./Mr. First Name, so that's what we go with. Only our very closest friends get the Aunt/Uncle title. Like my husband's best friend from childhood.

We will use Miss and Mr rather than aunt and uncle for our friends (bc I have 3 siblings all with SOs). So my friends will be Miss Rachel, Miss Katie, etc.

Well I'm in the same spot at Anony and we call them Auntie and Uncle... so not regional!

If the friend is Asian, my kids say uncle and auntie (or Chinese equivalent if they are Chinese) and for non-Asians we say mr. or Miss. It's definitely a result of my Asian upbringing.. Addressing elders as such. In fact I still cringe when my DD's classmates call me by my first name only. Obviously my expectations only apply to my family, but I'm wired a certain way and can't help it!

@anonysquire: lol! It doesn't make you weird growing up I never had that!

My best girlfriends are a yes. They are aunties and the hubs are uncles. We are all crazy lifelong friends and the best way I can explain us is non-southern yayas. None of our frights outside that group are referred to by anything but their first name though.

@mrbee: it's a Mormon thing I think. Like 60 cousins on one side and 45 on the other.

We refer to our good friends as Auntie/Uncle first name. I didn't grow up this was, but DH did and I assumed it was a cultural thing (Indian). Acquaintances are Miss/Mr. First name.

I like both of these better than Mr. And Mrs. - those titles can feel a little formal for young adults we know well.

I think it's a regional/cultural thing. I'm Southern and my DH is from India. Our kids call most of our friends Aunty or Uncle (or some variant based on ethnicity-- like for Arab friends it's "Khatu" or "Amu" etc.) I don't have any siblings and my husband has 2 brothers. So our kids call them Uncle but in Urdu, so no confusion.

If they are my good friends, I refer to them as uncle or auntie. If it's a coworker or just a friend, it's Mr. or Ms. Firstname.

Yep - she calls all our friends "Auntie" or "Uncle" followed by their name. It would be really weird for me to hear her calling adults simply by their first name. It's just not something I grew up with.

My BFF is "Aunt so-and-so". She's Cs guardian and has been my best friend since we were 13 and we're pretty much family at this point anyway. It just feels right.

My BFF's kids call me Aunt Dandelion, but all my other friends' kids call me Ms. Dandelion. I don't go by Mrs. Lastname, because it's different than DS's last name and it might get confusing.

@mrbee: I think it's the norm around us to use first names only. It seems odd to me, too! I think people would find uncle/aunty weird, though. How about doing Miss Andrea etc instead?

@mrbee: I have nine aunts and nine uncles so I was brought up the same way @anonysquire: was. Mr. And Mrs. last name and I live on LI. I've noticed the tides have changed though - we are being referred to by just our first names to friends' children. Our LO can't even talk yet.

All our close friends are auntie/uncle...they love it!

Our good friends have an 18 month old and they call me "Auntie K" with her. It honestly makes me uncomfortable for some reason. I this baby girl like no other and babysit her all the time. Baby girl obviously adores me, but I'm not her auntie. There was one time at a pool party where baby girl's own mom referred to me as "Mama K" when she was telling another friend how often I watch baby girl. I cringed. Our friends are phenomenal parents and I don't want anyone to think otherwise.

I can't explain my reasoning for why it makes me uncomfortable. They do it with all our friends though, mostly because baby girl's biological aunts and uncles live further away.

When I was a kid, we called our parents' friends Mrs/Mr Last name until they told us we were allowed to use their first name. But I also have 10 biological aunts and uncles (not including their Spouses) so I think my parents just didn't want us confused.
