My 3 year old has started this thing where she tries super hard to make herself cry and then continues to put out the most pathetic fake cry, it's actually quite comical at times. It does start to drive me nuts when she does it for extended periods but I'm sure it's just one of those phases!

Yes, whenever she doesn't get what she wants the tears immediately starts.

Only sometimes - she used to a lot more but when she does it I tell her she won't get what she wants if she whines or that I can't understand her when she's whining, and that if she fake cries or makes herself cry she REALLY won't get whatever she is asking for. Only took a few times for her to get it and quit it!

Omg! This grates my nerves so much, even though most of the time, she's obviously doing it in a playful way. She's also three.

Our 2 year old fake cries/whines all of the time. She thinks it's hilarious, and even makes this really pathetic face when she's doing it. She also whines for real a lot. It's a real party over here.

My mum used to tell me all the time I was fake crying (when I wasn't), so even it is sounds forced I assume she's still trying to express herself.

Yep, into the baby monitor when she is supposed to be napping, or when she's in time out. It's so obvious, and when we call her on it she cracks up.

He has a fake cry and fake whine, both start with big shoulder slumping. No real tears fall though.

My 2 year old does it all the time. We had an absolute ban on even the slightest whining noise when we were kids, which I hated because sometimes you just want to whine! So I let her whine and cry whenever she wants, and treat it like I do any kind of emotion. I also don't find the noise irritating, which helps.

Uh she has been doing it since she's like 9-10 mo probably. She'd start out wailing and will literally stop after 5 sec if she gets what she wants haha!
