My MIL wants to buy a dollhouse for my girls for Christmas. I don't want her to spend too much because my LOs are really young.
Which one do you have? How old is your LO?

We used to have the Loving Family dollhouse back in NYC. It was the perfect size for us back then and DD played with it for a few years before we moved. We haven't bought a new one to replace it yet, but will soon because DD 1 is asking for one for Christmas. I might "make" one with the Ikea Expedit... Saw some cute ideas on Pinterest!

@autumnlove: I know, right? Also pretty affordable and looks easy! Although I just realized your MIL wants to buy it... Maybe u can get her to buy the doll furniture you want! The sets can get pricey!

The girls I watch have the loving family one by fisher price! It's adorable.
@autumnlove: that is SO cute! And versatile - you could always repurpose the shelves later!

I really want my DDs to have a dollhouse but I think it will be more suitable for them to play with when they are much older...I'm thinking age 5-9...If I were to buy one now for DD1, she'd lose/destroy everything in minutes.

@Rubies: the littler one I watch is 3 in January and looooves the loving family one! She loves on the babies

I agree ^. They grow into them quickly. I just took away super small parts that were choke hazards. But many dollhouse toys are safe for younger toddlers. Like our play kitchen, I think our dollhouse got a lot of use.

We have this plan toys dollhouse.. It is really cute but so far my DS has shown more interest than my DD. I'm hoping she gets more into it after I get her some more interesting dolls...
She is 5 and DS is 2.

@autumnlove: We don't, but it's on my list. Our neighbor has a wooden doll house. I'm not sure if it's Kid Kraft or a Barbie Dream House -- there are barbie dolls in it, but I'm not entirely sure it's actually a barbie house.
I have to ask her -- C loooooooved it and played with it for an hour the other day!

We have this old one.
I love the size and I love that you can close the door. This blog is the only pictures I can find of it online.

My daughter has a beautiful family heirloom dollhouse. She's 26 months, and we just got it out for her. She's playing with it some, but I think she'll use it a lot more as she gets older.

I'm buying one for my son this Christmas- he will be almost 22 months and he loves to take care of his men, his cars and all the animal figurines that he has ( feeds them, puts them to bed, kisses them). I think he will enjoy playing house- we're getting the plan toy that @t-mom has. It's not too girly...

DS has a castle. I found the Melissa and Doug Fold & Go Castle at Goodwill in great condition. DS loves it! I bought the doll house version for my niece. I like that it can be compact to be put away.

We're getting C one for Christmas. We're going for a plastic one, since she's only 19 months. We're either doing the Little People one or the "My First Dollhouse", which is essentially the smaller. toddler version of the Loving Family one.
