We had passport pics taken yesterday and I filled out all the paperwork today.
I learned that I have to make an appt to apply and that both sets of parents have to be present! (did you know this?) 
Good thing DH is off all this week and half of next!
The earliest available is the 22nd.. so we took it.

Wow, didn't know that!! We don't have a passport for him but I need to get my name changed on mine and we should get one for O, you know, just in case we decide to jet off to some exotic locale last minute

My son has two passports. We did the application via the consulate...I think since I am an AMCIT and my husband is not, only I had to appear.

Yes, we got one for DD when she was about 7mo so we could take her to Korea. Luckily we were able to get everything done at our local post office (photos, application). It was pretty painless except for making sure DH was off that morning.

yup he does. @chopsuey: are you sure you both have to be there? For us, we could have the parent that is not present sign an affidavit stating that they consent to the child having a passport.

Yup, we both went to have it done. She looks like a bowling ball in her photo because she was in her 2 month old chubby ohase at the time. I wish I had a copy to hand!

My son has two! We applied for them when he was 2 months old. I will always treasure his first passport pictures.

We got it last year. Both parents are not required. The other parent just needs to sign off on it.

Yes, my DD has one, but we need to get one for DS. For DD, we went straight to the passport office on their open house day. I really need to get this taken care of!

@hilsy85: I think a signedaffidavit works if only one parent can make it. USPS alone with 2 kids to apply for a passport isn't something I wanna do though. Hah! Thankfully dh is off to come with!

Yup, she does, and already has a good collection of stamps for not quite 16 months old. I was able to apply for it on my own, without DH present. I just had to have certified copies of his identifying documents and there was a place for him to sign on the application, which we filled out ahead of time. This was all in Australia though...

Yup, we have one for S. My parents live on the border, so I thought it would be good to get one for her in case we wanted to go over, just to simplify things. DH didn't have to apply with me, but he had to sign the application and provide his information. This is a Canadian passport though, so might be different in the states.

we received the US one just 2 weeks after we applied, I was surprised! we both went, but I probably didn't need to be there, as DH is the only citizen. This was applying through the US embassy in NZ though.

Yes. We both went. I think you can do an affidavit but when I read it seemed to suggest that you were attesting that the other parent couldn't be there due to extenuating circumstances. The former lawyer in me knew it was really that DH had to go to work that day, so we just waited until the weekend and got it done at a passport acceptance facility, It's actually the main branch of the public library here in Brooklyn. Her picture is pretty funny. It took only a few hours. She's already used it.

Yes, because we took both of them to Cancun with us and it's considered International.

Yes, because she was born overseas we had to apply for one when we went to the embassy to get her certificate of birth abroad. We both had to be there.

Not yet and that's why. LOL! I have to find a time when her dad isn't at work or "busy" so we can go get it. We plan to take a cruise next year and I refuse to have my passport and not her. Never know what could happen.

Oldest does, youngest does not, but it's on the to-do list. I avoided the USPS, and went to my local library that does them one weekend a month (pictures too).

@loveisstrange: @SugarplumsMom: You girls are making me feel guilty that I STILL haven't gotten around to registering LO's birth with the US Consulate, which of course means she doesn't have a US passport yet, just an Aussie one. Sigh... Maybe I'll just wait until baby #2 arrives and do them both at the same time!

Yep we got one for LO at 9 months. Got her pic at Costco and application done at post office. It was pretty painless

@Ree723: The paperwork was a pos. The pictures were the biggest pain; I had to do them myself since the embassy doesn't take pictures and no one gets them done here since theirs is in house with different specs. But I only really rushed it since we were traveling to see my mom. Otherwise, I would have waited. But it was good to get it over with.
