Does your LO have a passport? When did they get it?
How long will it be good for? 5 years, right?
My LOs don't have theirs yet. We aren't planning on any international travel this year. Maybe next year.

My kids each have two passports and we applied for both of them at 5 and 6 weeks old. They are good for 5 years and we've already had to renew my son's.

E has his. We got it when he was 14 months old. We're planning on getting G's soon (she's about 5 months old). They're good for 5 years.

LO got one earlier this year since we traveled to England for spring break.

Yes. T got his when he was 2. I was SAH and it was convenient to do it then. R got his a few months ago before we had plans to travel internationally. He is 17 months.

We got lo's when she was about 4 months because we were going to Canada

LO1 got hers when she was about 3 months old. LO2 doesn't have his yet.

We got our son's when he was 6 months old and it is good for 5 years. He is 2 now and it's funny/sad to see how little he is in his photo! We have left the country twice with him, but thanks to Zika I'm not sure we will do any international travel this year.

Two months, four months, and I filled out the paperwork for #3 yesterday she's four months.
As an expat, it's important to me that my kids can get to my home country quickly if need be.

Yep, got hers at 6 months. Also got her Global Entry (along with our GE) which makes coming back into customs/immigration SO SO SO much easier and faster.
nectarine / 2173 posts
Yep, she was about my 10 months so we could travel at 13 months. Only good for 5 years

My son got his at 5 weeks. We live in the US, but all my family is still in Canada and knew we would travel back and forth quite a bit.
Passport is good for 5 years. It's funny to see how tiny he was at 5 weeks old in his picture.

We traveled internationally when she was 8 months old, so we applied for her passport when she was about 5 months old and got it a few weeks later.

LO1 has one, we were waiting to get LO2 one when we will actually use it.

My daughter got hers around a year and we are doing our first big international trip this summer.
I got mine when I was 4 days old! My parents moved from the states to New Zealand when I was 10 days old.

We went to South America at 11 mo. The picture is so so cute. I have a copy in my wallet.

My kids each have three passports. DD got her first at four months and her other two when she turned three. DS got all of his within the first few weeks of his life. Their Canadian and British ones last five years but their Spanish is only two years, which will be a huge pain in the butt to renew.

DD1 got her first passport at four months, her second passport at 22 months, and her third passport at 25 months. Yes, she has three passports (not even sure that's allowed, but meh) and they are all good for five years.
DD2 got her first passport at two months old and her second passport at 11 months old. She should have a third passport from the country of her birth (Australia) but as we were leaving Australia permanently shortly after her birth, we never bothered.
We'll get LO3's British passport as soon as s/he is born (within a couple of weeks) and register their birth with the US embassy as well with the aim of getting him/her a US passport soon thereafter as well. With family on three continents, we can't afford to not be able to travel at a moment's notice....

LO got his at 8 weeks so we could take him with us to Bermuda when he was 3 months old. He's now 11 months and we are leaving tomorrow for a hiking/beach trip in the Canary Islands!
We tried to get Global Entry for him in time for this trip, but it's impossible to get interviews now less than 3 months in advance. Oh well. But btw, why do babies even need to be interviewed?!

Yep. DS got his around 2/3 months. DD got hers around a year old.

Nope - we've only ever driven into Canada which just requires a birth certificate. BIL might have a destination wedding next year or year after. So depending on where they might need one then.
pomelo / 5607 posts
LO's should be here any day; she's 10mo. DH's company trip this year is to Mexico. We actually took her on a cruise at 6mo, but they just required a birth certificate.

DS1 got it at 4 months when we were planning a trip to Cuba. It just expired recently I think so it was for 3 years. We have no current travel plans but I intend to get them both passports soon. I want it to be something that is always current so it's never a hassle when we need them.
nectarine / 2951 posts
No. We'll get him a passport when we plan an international trip. At this point the budget is too tight for this kind of travel. Once DS is in kindergarten and daycare costs are lessened, then we might consider it.
grapefruit / 4545 posts
Not yet...we'll get them when we plan a trip. I dont see us going anywhere requiring one for a few years...DD2 is 9w now - we'd probably wait until at least 3 or 4 years of age before taking her to Europe...
We're not really into the Caribbean (that would require a passport) or Mexico...so I think we're safe until Europe!

No passports yet. I'm too scared to travel by air with two kids with life threatening food allergies. We just drive everywhere. If an opportunity comes up for us to go to Canada (7 hours away), then I'll probably get them a passport. Maybe that will lead to me being adventurous enough to travel overseas with the kids.
pomelo / 5228 posts
Yep, he has 2! Applied for both when he was a newborn and traveled internationally at 4mo.

@anniefannie: haha I know the global entry "interview" lol. They actually tried to fingerprint my 6 month old. I was like "go for it dude" while I silently died laughing. They have to take a picture of the kid. Apparently I need to take her back in 2 or 3 years and reattempt finger printing. Once you can enter their fingerprints in the kiosk they no longer get an "X" printout. So basically right now I put her passport in the kiosk and it spits out an "X" which I take to the diplomat line and they let you cut the line and they wave her through. Also FYI you still have to fill out a customs form for her but you get the fast global entry customs line. We felt like bumbling idiots the first time we took her through.

We got DD's passport when she was about 6 months. I believe she will have at least 8 stamps in her passport by the time she turns 2 in August!

We applied for LO's when he was 5 weeks, and first travelled internationally at 2.5 months. We have been planning to get his Nexus/Global Entry pass as well, but we haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm sure the figureprinting will be fun.

My son got his at 2 weeks old because we were travelling to the UK for a wedding shortly after. My daughter is 10 months and I just sent her application off because we are going to Hawaii for another wedding. We don't travel as much anymore since we have to pay for our two year old to travel
