DS is 18 months old and loves the play kitchen at daycare so we will be getting him on for Christmas. I am debating on whether or not to make one myself or just buy one. If we buy one I will most likely go with this one from Melissa and Doug:

We actually jsut got a free one this week, she's only 12 months old so a little young, but I think she will love it. We were plannign on getting her one for Christmas, but I will take a free hand-me-down!

I was really particular about the kind I wanted (wood, sturdy) but then I ended up buying an inexpensive plastic one from Step2. I think it cost me about $40 and my son's not really interested in it beyond its ability to function as a closet for his collection of trains.
I don't know if he just doesn't like the one I picked, or the kitchen in general.

We don't have one yet, but I'm thinking of asking for one for Christmas (I know my ILs would buy it for her) and then I would supplement with felt food from IKEA. Thinking of one of the KidKraft ones.

Pretty sure M is getting the Ikea kitchen from my grandmothers for her birthday. She's young for it now but hopefully she'll grow into it!

We have a Kidkraft Retro kitchen and it looks amazing and LO loves it. DH did not enjoy assembling it.

@autumnlove: I heard that the retro one is small. Did you find that to be true? My son is really tall for his age so I was afraid this would be too small for him.

we are doing it for Christmas! LO loves the ones she encounters at the playground or other people's houses. she will be almost 2 then.
thinking red kidkraft retro so glad to hear you like it @autumnlove. I love to build things (former engineer) so hopefully it won't drive me too crazy!

We plan on getting her one (or my parents mentioned getting her one) for Christmas. I'm thinking just a Step 2 one.

@autumnlove: we also have a kidkraft kitchen. C got it for Christmas, so she was 14 moths old.
My husband posted a very angry status update on Facebook while assembling. He's an engineer. It took him 5 hours to build Chloe's, partly because he kept getting pissed and stopping.
I think he said the kitchen came with more assembly instruction than the wheelchairs he builds.

@HabesBabe: I've seen it in store for $99. It's not on their website, but they do have some nice ones online. http://www.costco.com/kitchens.html

I looked up his status. It said, "Screw Christmas. I do less complicated stuff at work." with a photo of the instructions.
A few hours later he posted a photo of the kitchen he built with this caption, "I feel like I just passed a final... Guess I still get to be an engineer."
poor papa jumper... haha

We have a white kidkraft one. She got it at 12 months and currently just enjoys opening and closing the doors and putting stuff in the cubbies. I think 18mo+ is a great time to get one!!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Uhhhhh. My husband is horrible at putting things together. It'll take him 10 hours if it took your engineer hubby 5! Hmmm..I wonder if they make pre-assembled ones. Or maybe I should buy a used one that's already assembled.

@MaisyMay: Ohh, I need to check it out! I hope they carry it into the holiday season, although I'm sure the ILs would buy it now.

@HabesBabe: Ours just put it out not that long ago. I think it's one of their holiday things.

I'd like to get him one for Christmas (he'll be 16.5 months) but am undecided on which one.

@Mrsbells: The costco one is from kidscraft. It's this one, but $99.99 at Costco. http://www.diapers.com/p/kidkraft-large-kitchen-20337

@mediagirl: Are you happy you chose this kitchen? We didn't end up getting one for LO's bday, so we're going to buy it for the holidays.
