He has both a savings account and a 529 but we mainly contribute to the 529.

We've been meaning to set up a regular savings account but haven't yet. We did start a GET account, which is our state's prepaid college savings plan. DH and I are still disagreeing about whether we should fund it fully right now (him) or fund it in part and continue adding over the next couple years (me -- I'm uncomfortable tying up such a large part of our current savings).

@googly-eyes: u should ask to see statement from 529 if possible so you know how to adjust any savings plan you sign up for. E.g. MIL puts $500 per month into a 529 for DD so we have opted to use ESA for the moment to make sure we have more spending flexibility with that money.
