Does you LO have one, do you plan to buy one and at what age would you introduce it? Would you wait for her to be old enough to pick her own doll?

I have one, and LO will get mine and if she is interested when she is around 6-8 then she can get one of her own for a birthday or Christmas.

They're opening an American Girl doll store at our mall and I told DH to be afraid, very afraid lol
Luckily I think they're about 3 or 4 years away for us

I would never pay that much for a doll so no, they won't have one.

I have Kirsten from when I was little that will be passed down to LO some day.
I also bought her Marisol, because she's a Latina American Girl doll and LO is 1/4 Mexican-American, and Marisol has dark hair like LO. I bought the doll because a friend's daughter was selling her and a bunch of clothes, a trunk, etc. in order to raise money for a high school trip; not sure when I'll give her to LO, but it will be a few years!

Nope, maybe in the future if she expresses interest.

I am sooooo glad I have a son. The first time I saw them was before I was even pregnant. Little girls were taking their dolls to the shop for a freaking "spa treatment", salon service, ear piercing and what not. And these dolls have their seats and food in the in-house restaurant where you real people eat with them dolls. OMG.

I was going to get my kid a 2010 Girl of the Year, but then I had a son.
I'd love it if they did a boy doll.

@locavore_mama: They run about $150 - $200 I think?
I want a Samantha soooo badly but she's discontinued and I can only get it on ebay now for about $250 (new condition still in box).

My DD doesn't have one. Maybe, just maybe down the road, if she really wants one we will get her one. She actually attended a bday party in the AG Bistro. Let me just say it was a very nice party, great food, very nicely done (and $$$). They had dolls to borrow if you didn't have one. DD brought her own baby doll. I took her to see the case of dolls, and she couldn't tell the difference between all the brunette dolls, how one had blue eyes, vs brown, curly hair, vs straight. That's when I realized she had some time to go before being able to appreciate it (she is 5).

My MIL takes her granddaughters every year to the store/cafe for a joint birthday celebration. She bought DD a "bitty baby" doll this year, even though she's only 9 months. I'm sure she'll get a doll from her down the line. I also have a Rebecca she gave me as a gift that I'll pass down.

Thanks everyone I am on the fence about them but I am leaning towards getting her one in the future

I have Samantha and all her accessories and even the furniture so I hope LO is interested. I probably won't give it to her until maybe 6 or whenever we think she's ready. I would get her another if she was into them.

Ellie has two. She got her first (Kit) when she was five, and the other (Kaya) when she was six. She does enjoy them, but personally I find way more "worth" in the books. Ellie has been enjoying those, especially the ones about the time period itself for many years now. They are mostly well written, and the historical details are really interesting to her. She also really likes the American Girl mystery novels. She's really into mysteries, and the AG ones are a good balance of engaging and thrilling without being scary.

She doesn't have one and I doubt we will buy her one unless she is really into them. She'd have to save her allowance to help or something because that's a big expense for a doll.
I guess because they came out after my doll-liking time in childhood, I don't get the appeal. They just look like regular old dolls in cute outfits to me, haha.

I have Samantha, Felicity, and Kirsten, so I plan on passing those down to DD when she's maybe 4 or 5? If she really likes them (and takes care of them) I will get her another one for her birthday or something. I truly loved those dolls.

LO has a Bitty Baby that she loves. We will probably get a regular American Girl doll when she's older.

I have a boy, so no. If I had a girl I'd consider getting her one if she wanted one. I had one when I was younger. It's amazing that they're still so popular!
