I'm going to give T mine eventually for now she has a Bitty Baby that was a gift from my sister.

@Mrsbells: we may get my sisters too. That's the nice thing they are such good quality. Mine needs a new head since I cut the hair- but I'll wait till she cares/notices/won't cut it herself again.

No. My 2.5 and 4.5 year olds each have a target OG doll and lots of accessories, which is good enoughfor now. I think the dolls are great quality for the price, and the accessories are really well made. My girls will probably get my nieces' American Girl dolls at some point, but I won't give them those, or take them to choose new ones at the store (which I can't wait to do!) until they are more brand-conscious and a little more responsible with toys.

For me, The in-store experience is key - I probably would not buy them the dolls and less we were going to the store to shop for them has a special thing.

Mine both have Bitty Baby's that were purchased 1) at Costco and 2) using AG giftcards from costco (spend $80 get $100). K (3.5 yo) loves hers. She will get a 18" AG doll next year for her 4th birthday.

My dd is only 2, but I just bought her a bitty baby for the holidays. But I do still have my dolls from when I was younger (Felicity, Samantha, and a modern day doll).

I do think the quality isn't as good as it used to be 20 years ago (which sounds crazy that's it's that long ago!) and a lot more is made out of plastic instead of wood now. There are also a lot more expensive sets than their used to be, like the kitchen, that my parents never would have bought me. But overall I still think it's worth the money.

@Miss Ariel: I agree that the quality isn't the same! I got my first one in 1987 - almost 30 years now! The quality definitely changed when Mattel bought them.

My 3 year old doesn't know what they are yet, and is too young to get into the books at this point. I have a Kirsten doll that I can pass down and my sister (who doesn't have kids) has an Addie and a Samantha doll. And between us, we have lots of clothes. All stored in my mom's attic. So maybe at some point I will get those dolls and get them fixed up.
