My LO's don't have rain gear, and never have. Since LO1 is starting preschool I was wondering if a rain coat and rain boots would be necessary. I would hate to spend the money on it if she will wear it once or twice. Do you think this is a necessary item, especially for preschool?

We have it because we received them as a gift and she has worn them once or twice. It rains a lot here but only for short periods (and usually with thunder). So its not like we are out in the rain for periods of time.

I don't think they go outside in the rain at school but they probably do if it's done raining and wet so that's where rain boots may come in handy.

@Bao: nope, never had it. At DCP they don't go out if its raining and at home if they play in the rain they just wear old shoes

My son goes to a nature preschool, they go out if it's "misting."
So he has this rain bib thing and I got him snow boots that also work for rain.

My LO’s preschool goes out if its raining (unless it’s like a torrential downpour), and they will go out after it’s rained, where there will be puddles and wet grass – where rain boots are important to have. So, we leave a rain coat and rain boots at school as do most other parents.
One of her rain coats we found at either TJ Maxx or Marshalls, so it didn’t cost and arm and a leg. Grandma got her another coat from Vineyard Vines (which is a lot nicer, but did cost and arm and a leg!)

the kids do have rain gear -- boots and a rain coat -- but it rains a fair amount here. i'd just wait and see! affordable rain boots can also be purchased from target.

We just have rain boots and she got an umbrella as a gift. When I buy jackets for her, I make sure they are water resistant so they are multi use.

I buy rain boots and weatherproof jackets for my LOs. They need them for playing at the park with daycare and we also don't have a car, so they have to have appropriate clothing if we need to go somewhere.

Nope! If it's raining out, the kids don't go outside at daycare. If it's just sprinkling/misting and we need to run errands, I'll hold DS and use an umbrella. I might invest in rain boots and/or jacket when he's older.

Yes, not because it's really needed, but the raincoat at Target was so freakin' cute, I could not pass it up for $20. I just broke down and bought her some rain boots from Amazon because she is obsessed with her cousins' boots and puts them on whenever we go to my sister's house.

Boots are tricky bc I shuffle her into a car and then out of the car to and from daycare so she's barely getting wet. So I never put her in boots to school. Plus I hate being in rain boots all day, so she would need to change once there which is more of a hassle. I do have boots for weekends and when we go to the farm and/or other activities.
She has an umbrella she got as a party favor. But she rarely uses it.

She has rain boots but she always wants to wear them when it isn't raining. They don't go outside when it is raining at day care, so I never sent her the boots there. I don't see the need to get a rain coat.

Mine has rain boots that she loves but really only uses to play in the rain.

Mine does, but they were gifted. They came in handy during some stormy times earlier in the year. But, we really only used them a couple of times. I wish rain gear wasn't so expensive!

We do but DD likes to play in the rain here at home. She gets a lot of wear out of her stuff.
ETA- I got her coat at a consignment shop. My mum just bought them both one piece rain suits that should fit for at least two years.

We have rain boots, rain coat and splash pants. Dd loves to play in the rain and jump in the puddles

Just rain boots! I will get them both a waterproof coat when fall gets closer.
