We just came from the beach and my lo refused to touch the sand. The good part is we don't have to chase her around, she stays put on the beach blanket. She liked playing in the sand as a baby, but not so much anymore.

Our daughter is similar. She's happy on the beach blanket, but stays away from the sand. She's the same way on the grass too. She doesn't like to sit or crawl in it, so we have to bring her push walker outside for her to cruise around the yard (she doesn't walk on her own quite yet). I've noticed that DD doesn't really like getting messy, which I'm sure has something to do with it. She definitely got that trait from my husband!

They love the sand... at 5 yo and almost 2 yo! I got them new sand toys from Ikea and Michaels recently because we've been going to the sandbox and the beach a lot.

@skibobrown: My LO didn't like the grass until she started walking. She would always sit on the blanket, crawl to the edge, and then stop. But when she started walking she would venture off, even barefoot. My LO hates to get messy too.

My nephew hated the sand the first time we went to the beach and would cry/scream violently if anyone tried to put him down on the sand. But my mom and I had both just read an article about kids needing to do something 17 times to like it (like eating something new, or learning something new), so we literally just kept putting him back in the sand and counting. He finally stopped crying around the 14th time.
Then he loved it the rest of our 4 day vacation. It's just a new sensation that babies aren't used to.

My son used to hate sand. He didn't mind touching it with his hand but he wouldn't stand on it. We took him to the park today and he still hates the feeling of it on his feet. He likes running around with his socks on. He likes touching it with his hands but not his feet.
