My lo is a great eater at meal time, but she's not a big snacker. I offer a snack every day but she only has a few bites. Its usually about 3-4 hours since lunch so I feel like she should be hungry.

My LO loves to snack. Some days she'll eat a huge breakfast and snack the rest of the day fruit, cheese, yogurt, meats, sandwiches, crackers, etc.

that is great! we try not to give the kids snacks otherwise they won't eat much at mealtime. but when we are out a lot on the weekends, we are guilty of busting out the snacks because it helps them sit quietly in the stroller.

@Mrs. Bee: I read an article in parents magazine about how snacking a lot can cause obesity later on in life so I do agree that its good that she doesn't snack. I just feel like I always see and hear about other kids snacking so I find it weird that mine doesn't.

I try to give a morning and an afternoon snack b/c otherwise it seems like meals are really far apart from each other. DD isn't a huge snacker, but if I give her one of those fruit puree pouches, she'll suck it right down.

@artbee: i read that a huge difference between french parents and american parents is that americans give so many snacks. the french don't snack so the kids eat better at mealtime. i think it's the same in asia too. our snack culture probably does contribute to obesity.

I only offer fruits during snack time, and LO loves it. He could eat fruit all day long if I let him.

Ummmm...my LO is almost 17 months and she loves to snack...but she's a great eater too. Our pediatrician says it's ok for her to snack as long as she's eating well at mealtime. As soon as I notice her not eating well at meals we will cut back on snacks. I worry about creating bad habits so I'll just continue to keep an eye on how well she's eating.

She would snack all day if we let her! We try to do a structured am/pm snack on the weekends like they do at daycare but sometimes she ends up grazing a little more. She is a great eater overall so we try to keep going with what works...

@MamaCate: how does daycare do snacks?
I stay at home with LO but I try to do structured snacks too. She gets breakfast around 7:30; snack around 10:00; lunch around 11:45; snack after her nap around 3:00; and dinner at 5:00. Sometimes an hour after dinner she gets a little snack but that's rare and it's usually fruit or a puffed rice cracker (this usually happens if we go over to our neighbors bc she sees them with snacks)

@sandy: My LO is in the 1 y.o. room and they do snack around 8:30, lunch at 11, then afternoon snack around 2/when they wake up from naps. We provide lunch and milk and they provide snack. It is usually simple like a mini muffin, banana, crackers, yogurt, that kind of thing.
