My daughter is 3 and she has been wanting "earrings like mama" for at least 6 months. I'll let her do it, but not until she's a bit older, maybe 6 or 7?

My 2.5 year old has been asking a lot recently. I talked with her about the process, and have pinched her ears a few times to demonstrate to her that it hurts like a shot, but only for a minute. She's onboard; I'll probably get it done at her well-child physical in May.

My 4.5 year old is not interested due to the pain factor, but I suspect she'll ask once her little sister's are done.

I'm debating whether or not to just get the baby's done once she has enough vaccines. Culturally (on DH's side), people pierce baby girls' ears as infants. We were lazy and didn't do either of the older girls as babies, then they reached the age where I felt like they'd pull at earrings, so we held off.

No and I'm surprised! I guess I thought all little girls wanted it done! My thought was when she asks we will do it - she is almost 6 and never asked.

My daughter is 4 and has asked for them several times, until I told her it feels like having a "shot in the ears" and she said "um maybe when I'm in kindergarten."

DD is four and hasn't asked for them yet. But when she wants it I'll take her.

@MamaG: Any problems with your DDs tugging at them at one? I was worried by that age that the window of the girls not messing with them had passed, so I chickened out..but i felt guilty doing it when they were much smaller...I'd love to do everyone's this summer at 5 yrs, 3 yrs, and 9 mo.

@T.H.O.U.: yeah, I just threw out a ballpark age. I think I was 8 or 9 when I did it, but I don't remember. I know lots of people get them done very young and I have no problem with that, but my thought is that I want to wait until she's older and can really tell me if anything is wrong (pain, irritation, etc.)

Not in her radar because kids don't wear earrings around here. I would have pierced her ears as a baby (like I had) if we lived back in the States. Here, people think it's some kind of abuse. I disagree, but it's just way too much trouble to bother. Plus, DH is adamantly against it. She'll get her ears pierced when she's likely a teen (and asks).

My daughter is only 1 so hasn't asked! Haha, but she feels my earrings sometimes. There are 4 girls in my family and we all had to wait until we were 7 because that is the age my mum decided for my eldest sister. We all wanted them done by then except for my youngest sister who we peer pressured to get it done when she was 9 ish. I don't know why, obviously she wanted it somewhat, but she was quite nervous about the pain. I'll wait to see when my daughter starts asking/if ever. See how observant she is and into that kind of thing. I only wear plain tiny gold studs so they aren't very noticeable I think.

@lamariniere: Sorry that second part wasn't directed at you! Just another random thought!

My DD got them this past Christmas, when she was 8. She was scared up until that point, but finally the desire to do it ougweighed the fear. Claire's will do them both at the same time, they were super fast, very clean, and probably do a million a day. It's way less scary than I remember it being when I got it done (one at a time, with a "gun", etc.)
