My daughter is just 6 months old but she has started making this whining noise when she wants to be picked up. It started at mealtime. We would put her in her high chair, feed her and when she wanted more or when she was done, she would make the whining noise. Now she is doing it more and more because she is sick and clingy and needy. 
Does your lo whine? What age are they and any tips for nipping this in the bud? It's too early for my good baby to start whining!!

ooooooh yes. Hers is more of a coughing whine. We're trying to do sign language with her so we can figure out what she really wants. It was really frustrating for a few months because she whined for everything. I felt bad because I couldn't always figure out what she wanted.

Yep. Right now it's mostly because she's also sick and just wants some love. I've noticed that she usually doesn't whine if she naps well...if only I could actually control that...

Oh man. DD is almost 6 months and has been whining like crazy! Whenever she doesn't want to sleep, she whines and it feels like she's whining all day!

@chopsuey: What did you do about the fake crying?
Since the onset of teeth coming in for real, the whining and fake crying is constant. It stops if I divert her attention, distract, or make her laugh - but I can't be entertaining her the whole time she is awake. What can I do to nip this whining in the bud?

@shopaholic: since dd is older we just tell her to stop faking it. She doesn't fake cry much, but will sometimes when the baby cries. Ahhhh
My son has recently started fake crying. Omg it's cute for now, but we just ignore him. Lol. And he stops. If we give him attention he usually tries to milk it and will fake it for longer.

Oh goodness, yes. DS is 9 months and it's SO annoying. His is due to teething pain. I feel so bad, but I just want to hide when he whines.

@shopaholic: It really did help! We could narrow down what she was wanting because she could tell us more, no, or all done. Just those alone made such a difference.

Yep at 13 months old she whines or throws a fit when she can't express what she wants. She gets very frustrated quickly.

@ValentineMommy: I've noticed the whining was less today - maybe because the tooth really broke through yesterday. Ah! IDK how I'll handle it for every single tooth though!

Lo started doing this at maybe 14 months. Sometimes when it's not annoying me too much, I will whine back at her and she usually starts laughing. Other times we ignore her or tell her to wait and she stops. She usually does it when she's hungry and I'm prepping her food, or when she's bored and wants attention.
