How long are you away? La Leche says 1 1/2 to 2 oz every hour you are gone. I often had to pump one more time (morning) to make enough for each day.

I do.. but I've been exclusively pumping 4 - 5 times a day. It's a pain, but I know if I cut down any more I wont be keeping up with demand. Right now I think I produce about 6 oz. over what she eats every day (@ 3.5 mo.)

@sunny: being gone almost 9 hours, you should have at least one more pumping during the day too. It doesn't sound like you will get quite enough but it will be much closer. In the morning, I would pump one side and nurse the other. I got like 5-7 oz the most of any pump.

As a pp mentioned, baby is very efficient at removing milk. Your pump may not be as efficient so you likely aren't starving your kid. I also suspect you are nursing about every 3 hours. Is that right?

I also found nursing baby whenever I was was home was great at upping my numbers. And during a growth spurt I would put in one extra pumping for about a week to catch up.

Haha...it's 4am and I'm about to go pump! I bf at 7am, he takes 2 bottles of 8-9 oz at daycare (I'm gone about 9 hours), and I nurse as soon as I pick him up at 5. If he weren't sleeping through night and I couldn't pump if have big problem!

It does sound like you'll need to add some pumping sessions. I'm gone for 12 hours every day and he eats 18-20 oz during that time. I was pumping three times at work, but not getting nearly enough. I needed to add a pump session while I get ready in the morning and after he goes to bed at night. I'm thinking I need to start pumping in the night now too

I wouldn't worry about thinking you'd been starving her. She would have let you know if she was hungry all the time.

No. LO eats about 30 oz a day and I'm only pumping about 20-25 oz even though I pump 6-7 times a day. We supplement with formula. I'll be going back to work in a few weeks and am hoping to up my supply before then.

So far I have been able to keep up. (Even when I was sick) I work hard at keeping up my supply though.

I have been able to keep up with LO's needs (and build a large freezer stash). However, I pump more than LO gets a bottle. At the moment, 3 pumping sessions cover 2 bottles and I usually have a few oz to freeze.

Most people have to pump more times than LO gets a bottle, so consider adding another pumping session (or two).

Also, your output might increase once you are a little more comfortable pumping at work. When I went back to work the first few days I wasn't producing as much as I would when I pumped at home. As I got used to my new routine (work, pumping, LO in child care, etc), my output increased.
