I'm part of a couple playgroups, and I have mom friends I met at parks and other public places, so I get invited to a lot of kid birthday parties. The parties are for young kids, so the parents have to stay and be present at the party. DH does not like to attend these parties, since they are often hosted at kid places (like bounce houses), and he feels like the moms are my friends and not really his. Some of the dads go to the parties, but even so, he would prefer to skip. Does your SO go with you to kids birthday parties? If so, do they enjoy going?

Yes. Both parents for all the kids are usually there unless they have 2+ kids.

For us, it depends on who knows the birthday kid's parents best! Sometimes one of us will take one kid, and the other one will stay home with the other one. But we usually go with both kids and both parents, if that's an option.

Yes. He wants to go. He genuinely enjoys meeting and getting to know LO's friends and parents. A couple of weeks ago he took DS by himself to a party with people he had not even met because I was sick.

Yes of course! He likes watching DD play and meeting new parent friends.

Yes, we have been going to kids birthday parties for years before we had kids- but from our core group of friends. Birthday parties count as family time to me.

No! I don't even think he's invited lol! I've never seen more than 1 parent (usually just mom) at birthday parties unless the whole family is specifically invited. Like, birthday parties for friends from classes, just me and lo. We all go for a party for our godson or the daughter of my BFF from college because we're all invited.

He's usually working weekends anyway but he would have no fun. I usually don't see dads at the parties. -

He always try's to get out of it and I always force him to go. Neither of us enjoy that kind of thing and I am not suffering it alone!

Usually it's just one LO invited and mostly just the moms bring them. DH will stay with our other LO. If it's for our friends' kids or if we have to travel far then we go as a family.

DS1 (10 years old) is the only one that gets invited to birthday parties, and they're usually boy themed, so DH takes him by himself.

Yes. In our group of friends there is one family where the dad always skips this kind of stuff and we all think it's super weird. He never comes to anything because he's always watching football 🙄

For our friends DH does come because baby sister is also invited. When it comes to school friends I have gone with her and DH stays with DD2.

No and it's usually fine with me. I have more friends with kids. Last time we went to one for the child of my good friend but he actually knew all the other guests much better and they all asked where he was. I thought it was kind of silly to skip that one and he agreed afterward so maybe he'll go once in awhile!

Yup, we both always go unless there's a work commitment or something and at Lo's parties most parents have both come.

Sometimes, but I just went to one by myself today for the second time in a row. I think I was one of two moms (in a big group) there without the dad. Not my favorite. I joked that I'm not photoshopping him into FB pictures, because many of my friends from my mom's group haven't met him!
He always has a good excuse though - both times it was work related.

No, only because he never has weekends off. I think he has gone to only one kid party with us, ever. He would if he couls, though.

No, it's not his cup of tea. He's very introverted and doesn't enjoy being around people he doesn't know or making small talk.
I'm extroverted and that's totally my scene, so I go. I love meeting and talking with LO's friends' parents, we all exchange cute stories about our LOs and it's just fun to me.
I think DH would rather have a root canal haha, it's just not his thing and I'm not going to judge him or anyone else for not enjoying something and I certainly wouldn't gossip about why someone else's SO wasn't in attendance, regardless of how valid or invalid I thought the reason was.

@Applesandbananas: we have similar husbands! Mine is introverted as well, so parties in general aren't his thing. If he knew the couple and it would involve doing something like hanging outside and grilling, he might attend. But otherwise, I don't see him being into it. And honestly, I don't think I'll like them that much either! We're not in the thick of the bday party scene yet, but I hate making small talk and groups of kids playing usually means you have to make sure everyone is getting along.

@Happygal: lol DH doesn't even often accept invites for BBQs and stuff with his friends. His best friend has a BBQ every year and we've gone once. It just isn't something he enjoys. He loves hanging out one on one with this guy or for all of us to get together (his wife and I get along well and his kiddo is close in age to ours).

Nope and its def not the norm here - maybe 2 sets of parents attend out of 12-14 kids.
