This one goes out to all the people out there living with a man... 
I always thought that you'd have to reaaaallly not pay attention to fall into a toilet with the seat up, but it actually happened to me like ten years ago. I had left the seat up, then went to sit down.. and fell in. It was an epic fail.
Does your SO put the toilet seat down? And be honest: when was the last time you fell into the toilet?

He leaves it up occasionally. And I don't turn the light on at night. So yes, I've fallen in.

Hahahahhaha. It has been a loooong while since he has left it up and honestly I have never fallen in. I am one of those people that check for alligators or snakes in the toilet before sitting though... 24.7 haha.

I am super lucky to have a husband who sits down to pee and have never had to worry about the seat being up. My dad would often forget though, and I used to fall in when I was a kid.

We actually have a habit of putting the cover down to avoid cat drinking from the toilet. I also have always done this even before our cat ever since I saw an article once of how water particles fly during a toilet flush - never again did I leave the cover open when I flush. *shudders* This makes it fair, I guess, because either I have to put the cover down or he has to put the cover and seat down.

ugh. he always leaves it up. always. even at other people's house - which i said is NOT etiquette. so dayum annoying. that's what you get for raising a family of all guys. my MIL did NOT train them right. i haven't really fallen in, but i've sat on the gross toilet (with the seat up).... i promptly washed my behind after. i'd say it's happened about 2 times? because now i know to always check.

Our toilet seat automatically puts the cover up and down. My husband has to push the seat up button but once he's done, it flushes and the seat and cover go down automatically. I've never fallen in the toilet.

He leaves it up, but that's because he goes to the bathroom WAY more than me, so I don't really care. I never go anywhere without the light on, so I never worry I might fall in.
The last time I fell into a toilet was in pre-school. And it scarred me for life.

He NEVER puts the seat down. I griped about it when we first moved in together, but I just accept it now (5 years later). I would prefer that he put down the seat and the cover (because when you open something, you close it!!) but he just doesn't. I just automatically put down the seat now, without thinking.
I haven't fallen in the toilet in years though, I used to sometimes when I was a kid and my dad didn't put the seat down. I don't think I've ever fallen in while living with DH.

Just kidding. I wish I could threaten that, but he has trained me very successfully in the past decade to always check before sitting unless I want a cold stiz bath.
I figure I have trained him to do other things, I will concede this one. Especially since I will soon be outnumbered with the arrival of the boy.

My DH is pretty good about putting the seat down. He did just get back from a year long deployment though. Hopefully, he hasn't forgotten that the seat goes down! So far, so good!

He doesn't leave it up, thankfully. I managed to train him on that very early in the relationship, hehe. We both ALWAYS set the lid down before flushing. It freaks me out to flush with the lid up... I imagine all the germies swirling around the air... *shiver*

He puts it down all the time. And closes the lid before flushing. (@sweetchic the swirling germies freak me out too!) That's a habit I've had since I was a kid and I passed it on to him. I think that last time I fell in the toilet was at my parent's house. I have to share a bathroom with my younger brothers when I am there.

When we first moved in together, I would make him go in a put it down before I went if he left it up. Sounds mean, but I had cats and I put bleach tabs in the toilet so it NEEDS to be down so they dont drink from the toilet. I NEEDED him to get use to that. So he doesnt leave it up anymore.

He puts it down most of the time (I'd say 80%?) and I've fallen in probably about 10 times in the past 13 years. Reminds me of that "Curb your Enthusiasm" episode when Larry falls in!

He puts it down all the time. He doesn't do it to be considerate to me, though. He does it because he doesn't like walking by the bathroom and see the toilet so "bare" with the seat up - it looks gross to him.
I fell in once at night when I lived with my brother and HE left the seat up.

He almost always puts the seat down thank goodness!!! Last time I fell in? Never but I've come awfully close!!

Yes, he puts the seat down. I never thought this was such a big deal when my friends would complain about this as a pet peeve. Then last year, Mr. M forgot to put the seat down, and I stumbled into the bathroom in the middle of the night, pregnant and groggy, and fell! Then I realized what a huge deal it was!
