Bee and I were hanging out with a WAHM this weekend, and she mentioned that her SO prefers that she stays at home to watch her toddler (either as a WAHM or a SAHM).
It had not occurred to me that SOs might have a preference on this stuff. I guess I'm used to the decision being driven by economic concerns.
It got me thinking... does your SO have a preference as to whether or not you stayed at home with your LO (or not)?

Yes, I think his preference is for me to always be working and contributing $$ -- less pressure all on him.

It's not even a thought that's crossed either of our minds, because we can't give up either of our incomes without drastically changing the lifestyle we've built for ourselves. In a perfect world, I think he prefer one of us be at home with future LO... but we have grandmas to help with that transition

He would prefer that one of us could stay home with our LO. If that were possible, he would love to be the one to stay home with her. He wouldn't mind if I stayed home with her either, but I really think he would love to be a SAHD.

Dh wants me to be a sahm! We both agree that it's impt for me to be home with her.

Yeah, he definitely prefers for us both to work. I've talked about taking a whole year off when we have our second (because I'd like to, and because my salary just barely covers two young kids in daycare) and I think he finds even that kind of odd. And stressful.

DH prefers that I stay home with her atleast while she is an infant and after 1 year of age I will probably start a part time business and he will have his own business. (which will give us the luxary of flexible schedules so LO won't have to be in daycare much)

I've decided to go back to work but the hubs has told me a number of times that if I wanted to quit my job, he'd be glad to support out little family.

He likes me being at home with our LO. He thinks that there is no better child care out there than her mommy, and he also knows how much I love being home and it makes him happy to have me so happy.

While she was a young infant I think his preference was stay at home, it made both of our lives more sane. I think now if I could find a bit more work it would be perfect balance of income and LO time. I don't think either of us can see her in daycare full-time but he's not at a good point to stop training and be able to take over care.

Not really. Out of the two of us, I am much more interested in having a parent at home than he is. His mom was a working mom so I don't think he sees it as vital, but he supports me desire to be a SAHM if we can swing it. It's not really a gender role thing with us, though - we've discussed that if I ended up earning more than him, he might stay home.

yes, DH wants me to be a SAHM. i've had a pretty intense career for the last seven years, so i'm more than happy to take a sabbatical of sorts. i'll probably return to the workforce on a part-time basis in a year or two, if that's possible.

Mr. Jacks was made to be a stay at home parent and he had a strong preference that I pursue my career while he does the household stuff.... and thank goodness for that because we both have the jobs we love!

My husband and I discussed this topic a lot while I was pregnant...I felt obligated to go back to work because I made a nice salary and had invested a lot of time in my career. It's really unusual for mothers to return to work full time where I live, most men will actually tell you that they prefer their wives to stay at home, young or old, it's surprising.
My husband said the choice was mine, but if he had to choose, he would want me to stay at home. His reasoning is that we don't have family near us to help out if we need back up care.

I always thought he'd want me to stay home, if we could afford it, but I think @Andrea makes a good point that I never really considered. I kind of feel like we could make it work if I stayed home (it would be HARD, but not impossible), but he seems to think there is no possible way we could give up my income. On the other hand, I do have a great work schedule as a teacher, and working 8-3 with all of the breaks I get is pretty ideal for a working mom (not that I ever really work 8-3 with all the extra planning and grading, but it's better than being tied to an office for 10 hours a day).

My husband would like for me to be a sahm mom one day. He likes that I'm mostly a house wife now. I'm not sure what we will do anymore.
