Hubs is in the Navy. He actually works on jets as a mechanic, which isn't that dangerous but when he's deployed he has to do a significant amount of time on the flight deck as the jets take off and land which is incredibly dangerous. He actually has to crouch by the jets as they take off, and if anything happens to the catapult mechanism (which makes the jets take off in such a small space) he would be f*cked.

I just try not to think about it and remind myself that what he does is for the greater good of our entire country, it isn't just a job.

I don't consider DH's job dangerous but people who are afraid of flying/planes would. DH is a consultant so he is flying across the country every week.

Yes and no. Some jobs may be dangerous while others aren't. He's a plumber.

My husband is a railroader which is one of the most dangerous jobs out there. I worry all the time about getting a call that he's pinned under a train and I have to go down and say goodbye to him before they lift the train and he dies. Or that I'll get a call that they derailed and he got smashed. We've come to an agreement that he probably shouldn't tell me the stories that involve train accidents that happen at work because I worry too much. I also worry about his mental health because they hit a lot of cars and there is nothing they can do but sit in the engine and watch. He works with a guy that has hit (and killed) 13 people in 6 years. That starts to take a toll on a person after awhile. People just need to be more aware of trains and the power they have. I sat behind a school bus that was stopped on the tracks the other day and I wanted to go smack the driver!

Nope, he works in the office of a small manufacturing company. He's out on the shop floor sometimes doing quality control but even that's not too dangerous.

His job deploys 6 months a year. He said he'd start job hunting this month, and he's found non-deployable, more stable openings in his field, but he hasn't applied for any. Urgh, I don't want to fight about this again.

Our husbands have the same profession. Mine is an engineer/conductor, pretty dangerous itself not to mention the long hours they put in. I told him to please not tell me how many people he's hit, I know of a couple and he won't openly speak of them. He gets upset talking about the bear and deer.

No, but it doesn't mean I don't worry about him...we live in a mountainous, cold area that gets a lot of snow and I get worried about him getting into a car accident on his commute.

@Mrs. D: My husband just started working as a ship welder. I am pretty sure it's dangerous, sometimes he makes it sound that way and other times no. Fortunately its a large company so they follow OSHA regulations really closely with lots of oversight. Either way its really hard physically on his body, and he's already saying how he doesnt plan to do this type of work forever. I worry about him!

I suppose! FI is in air conditioning and refrigeration on a commercial level. All their work is on top of the roofs of air ports, major shopping centres, etc and often working with high voltage electricity.

DH is a deputy for Sheriff Department!
Obviously his job is/can be dangerous, I actually worry more about him on the road and accidents more than confirmations

Law enforcement, so yes I know the danger is real but I don't dwell on it day in and day out or I'd be a mess. Our rule is that we aren't allowed to be mad at each other when he leaves for work!

@FaithFertility: I worry more about other drivers too! He says people almost hit him on the side of the road daily. DON'T TELL ME THAT!!

He's a SAHD, so, it isn't dangerous unless you count his sanity. Heh. Before, he worked for Congress. Other than the occasional threat, it wasn't dangerous.

My DH doesn't, but my dad does. He makes explosive mixes that are used to detonate buildings, shoot rockets into space, etc. His plant can't be visited by anyone under 18 and there are restrictions even for adults. He has to wear a firesuit whenever he is actively making the mixes. It used to scare me but he's been doing it for 25 years now. Knock on wood. Love my dad.

On the funny side, before this job he was a restaurant cook and he jokes that it's basically the same job - "just follow the recipe."

My husband is the health and safety specialist for a large oil refinery... His job is keeping every person the enters the refinery safe from harm and up to code. His team is first on the scene if something does go wrong, whether its an injury, a chemical leak, or a fire. So while they take every precaution there is potential for things to go very wrong. He's on call about every six weeks and i dread when he gets calls to go in during the night.

DH is in law enforcement, so it can be a dangerous job. We're lucky to live in a quiet, rural area, but there has been a big increase in violence lately because of the drug epidemic. It scares me, but he loves his job and I trust him to be safe.

@eeh: @StbHisMrs: I heard a segment on NPR one time about the emotional stress of this job and how it was inevitable that they'll end up hitting someone during their career. People were sharing stories that haunted them. It really stuck with me.

I think the most dangerous part of my husband's job is all the commuting he does in his car every day. I worry about car accidents. He deals with criminals all day long, but I don't think it's really dangerous.

My husband is a doctor, currently finishing up his pediatric residency. I'm so grateful that I don't have to worry about his physical safety, especially when he is gone for nights on end or weekends in a row.
I do worry about his emotional health and stress level. When patients die, or if he feels like he didn't do enough, or even the stress of taking care of 25 NICU babies at the time- it's been pretty hard for him. And doctors don't exactly have a culture of creating space for emotional vulnerability and support around those stresses.
