Dr hellobee needed...

So, I just noticed some weird lumps on my arm. A little later tonight I had one on my neck. So I have a crazy rash pretty much everywhere. They aren't the same as hives I've had before. They are larger and raised and don't necessarily itch.

In theory, AF starts tomorrow after my chem pregnancy from FET. When she shows I start my next cycle. But since I am fairly certain the last failed due to allergic reaction, I am concerned to start one with an allergic reaction going.

Any ideas? Anything I can ask dr google? I don't even know where to start!

@Dapple Grey: not right now I'm putting my son to sleep. As soon and hubby gets back with Allergy meds I will try to get some.

What about heat rash? Have you been in a/c during this crazy heat? I just read that it's more common with humid heat and we don't usually get that here in SoCal...

That looks like an allergic reaction rash I had to a drug I tried for my Crohn's. Did you by chance use progesterone in oil injections this cycle? This says some women get hives or a rash at the injection site but I don't think it would be unheard of to develop a rash all over if you were allergic to it.

Mention it to your RE and see what he/she says. There's got to be another form of progesterone you could take. Did you take a steroid before the transfer and after? Some REs will prescribe a steroid like prednisone during a cycle to combat the possibility of an immune response that could cause the pregnancy not to take. Also something to ask your RE about.

If you didn't use the PIO, have you taken anything else recently that you've never used before? It could be heat rash but it seems like that would develop somewhere on the body where moisture gets trapped, like behind your knees from sitting cross legged or in the crease at your elbows.

Hope that helps. Obviously I'm not a doctor. I just have some personal experience with adverse reactions to meds (and I recently have been researching IVF to prepare myself for later on when we start that process). Hang in there

@brownie: That looks a lot like the hives I had a few weeks ago, though they were definitely itchy. I finally got them to go away with Benedryl cream and stinging nettle pills.

Also, why do you think the allergic reaction caused the CP?

I got a rash like that when I had an allergic reaction to a medication. It started on my forearms and over the course of several days spread all over my arms, legs, butt, face, and back. The Worst! I went and saw a dermatologist and she prescribed a topical cream but I had been using hydrocortisone on it throughout and by the time the cream came in it was on the decline so I just stuck with that. Took around 8-9 days from start to finish.

I've gotten random rashes like that before. A dose of Benadryl always clears it up.

I am also curious why you think allergies caused your chemical pregnancy... Did your doctor tell you that?

Took two benadryl last night and seem to be pretty well over it.

@Mrs Green Grass: @illumina: Maybe heat rash. I was teaching crossfit 9- 11:30 am but inside with a/c for the rest of the day. I didn't notice anything until the evening. I had been walking my son to preschool so about 3 miles (round trip) every day and this is the first day for anything.

@PointeShoesTutus: This is my personal concern. I did PIO in olive oil. I had a reaction to the EMLA cream right away doing it. But everything was just inflamed. Based on the fact that it happened RIGHT before my period started, made me think progesterone. If it is progesterone, I don't know if I will be successful cycling right away. The last time I took PIO was Monday night so a delayed reaction for some reason? I have to call the RE today so I will ask.

@Mrs.Someone:@Pink Champagne: I haven't talked with the RE about it because we are immediately cycling again. I had a reaction to EMLA immediately. I think that reaction was systemic and I personally believe those attack anything it can. Including embryos. I started an anti-inflammatory diet for this time around.

@brownie: I can't speak about a delayed reaction to EMLA or progesterone but I did have a delayed reaction to the drug that I took. The doctor wasn't sure and had me do another treatment. The second treatment caused the reaction, but a day sooner than before and the doctor finally pulled me off of it.

Hope you get some answers from the RE. If you RE thinks an immune response caused the previous loss, I hope your protocol changes a bit for this cycle to take that into account. Ask about a systemic anti-inflammatory (like prednisone) since you've had a reaction already. If I remember correctly, you're the lovely lady who can cycle one more time right away and then has to wait another year before trying again, right? Thoughts and prayers for a smooth cycle and a sticky baby!

@PointeShoesTutus: yup that's me. This is it for another whole year. We did prednisone until the transfer and then was off of it. I talk to the nurses today and should have a baseline appointment on Tuesday.

@brownie: can you do suppositories instead? Is it possible to react to the progesterone itself? I imagine your re would have seen something like this before, but if not, definitely get more advice so this cycle is as successful as possible!

@Mrs Green Grass: sounds like Benadryl may be added to the protocol. You can be allergic to progesterone. We are going to rotate through the different oils so we can reduce any possible reaction to the oil.

@brownie: I remember I used to get hives in the 2ww for no apparent reason and felt like it was progesterone-related...not so much because I was allergic to progesterone (although I have sooooo many other allergies) but because it triggers a histamine response. When I did my IVF cycle I took Medrol just before and for several days following transfer (not because of my previous experiences but because it was the center's protocol), and I think CCRM has their own cocktail of Prednisone and other antihistamines. The only thing I'd be wary of is that I've heard antihistamines in the 2ww can also work against implantation. Wishing you so much luck with this cycle!

@brownie: There doesn't seem to be very much out there about it so I'm not sure? Taking antihistamines once or twice doesn't seem to hurt anything, though you might be better off having something like Medrol or Prednisone prescribed if you might need it for several days. There is a long long thread out there where a bunch of women tried antihistamines to replicate CCRM's protocol and it didn't seem all that successful which is why I think getting the real thing from your doctor is probably safer and more effective.
