In an attempt to be more frugal, I'm going to switch from my MAC makeup to drugstore makeup. Can you recommend your favorite concealer, foundation, and powder that can be purchased at Target?

Makeup Geek JUST did a great post on this. She knows her stuff. I've used a few of the things she mentions and I loved all of them.

I really like my Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse foundation. I bought loose powder to brush on top....Cover Girl brand, I think.

@zippylef: ooh thanks!
How do you find the right shade? At the MAC store you can try the different shades. Do I just guess and hope to get it right within a few purchases?

I use Maybelline SuperStay foundation - sounds like it's probably very similar to the Revlon one. And basic CoverGirl power!

I use BB cream all over, and then put a little extra on blemishes and under my eyes like concealer. I like Revlon PhotoReady for foundation, and I use cheap CG pressed powder.

@WALLAROO: I'm also a big fan of the Colorstay line. I've had good luck with their regular Colorstay foundation and the whipped version. It's hard to narrow the right shade so I always look up "MAC <insert your MAC color> Revlon colorstay equivalent" or something along those lines and read a couple of opinions before heading out to make a drugstore foundation purchase. Even though Target has competitive prices, I usually go to Walgreens or CVS for foundations because they have an awesome return policy! If it doesn't match, they will take it back (ask the clerk first to double check) whereas Target will not take back makeup that has been opened.
Happy shopping!

I love the Revlon foundation, too. Loreal full and soft mascara, Rimmel Exaggerate eyeliner, and revlon eyeshadows are all favs. All my makeup, except my NARS blush are from the drugstore!

@WALLAROO: if you have ulta near you, they sometimes have samples of the drugstore brands available to try.

My favorite drugstore makeup line is L'oreal True Match for powder/concealer/foundation. L'oreal also for eyeliners and mascaras. I like Sonia Kashuk for eyeshadows and blushes as well.

i haven't tried drugstore foundations other than revlon colorstay, but it really is fantastic. my makeup artist friend uses it even though she has all the expensive brands at her disposal.

L'oreal has a great professional secrets line and I swear by their primer under eyeshadow!

Foundation: Almay Perfect Match, i use this when I'm feeling too cheap to buy Smashbox. Although it sounds like I might have to try Revlon.

I don't use liquid foundation, but now I really want to try the Revlon color stay! I'm always on a mission to find a good drug store concealer, too, so loving all these suggestions.
