I didn't read the article or the other thread, but yes I've been annoyed by drunk people outside of a bar.

Three years ago my mom & I stayed in a hotel while visiting my sister at college. Around 4am a group of girls came back who shared a wall with ours. They had men with them and it sounded like an orgy. Honest to god. And they kept complaining about being out of alcohol, and talking about how much they'd been drinking all night.

So... THAAAAT was awkward. And annoying. I kept thinking "dear god I hope my mother doesn't hear this..." but she did & she totally called the front desk.

I agree that drunk people are rarely an issue. It happens from time to time but not that often. I do feel like the loud, self important business man talking on his cell phone deserves to be on the obnoxious list though. I might just be easy going but it is rare that I feel like someone is truly just not behaving appropriately for the situation enough to have it stick out in my mind. Kids cry, teenage girls giggle, some people walk slowly, some people are terrible drivers-- it's life and I guess I feel like most of the time it is a bearable level of annoying.

@Mae: I've never experienced a kid screaming in a restaurant! I always hear about it but it's never been an issue. I have seen kids start to cry and the parents get up and walk them outside for a bit

Only certain types of drunk people annoy me, and at that point I'm usually in a bar, which is where they're allowed to be annoying. haha

I definitely get annoyed with parents of children who seem out of control in that moment.

I think I've encountered more drunk annoying people than crying babies in public. I've lived in a lot of college towns though so maybe a skewed experience. Or maybe I don't notice babies crying as much because that's what they do to communicate sometimes whereas there's no reason a person has to act like a drunk asshat so I'm more likely to be annoyed with the asshat.
@Mae: I was a server too and was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy more annoyed with drunk people than kids. I can't think of any big drama that happened when I was serving kids whereas most group of guys that were drinking got some eye murder by me at some point with their little sassy comments.

Annoying people are just annoying. Ever notice how the obnoxious drunk is obnoxious even sober? Annoying kids usually stem from lack of parental supervision or guidance. If a kid is crying or screaming, I don't get annoyed unless the parent is obviously just ignoring it or letting them run wild, acting oblivious. And that goes back to my annoying people thing.

I can't vote because i don't find that i am regularly or even somewhat regularly annoyed by kids or drunk people. Not to say it has never happened. But not any more than people have annoyed me who don't fit in those categories (like people talking in movie theatres or talking really loud when I'm trying to concentrate on work at Starbucks). If anything kids annoy me the least because I know they are kids!

Drunk people are obnoxious. I've encountered them on public transport, restaurants, walking down the street etc and there is nothing more annoying than someone being loud and completely obnoxious because they're drunk. I will happily take a kid being a kid over a drunk person any day. Kids don't have a choice in what stage they're at developmentally, and it is very rare that I find myself getting annoyed with typical kid behaviour. Drunk people, on the other hand, nearly always have a choice in how much alcohol they consume - that alone is enough to take away all my patience with them.

As a side note, I am not trying to be holier than thou, goodness knows I have been drunk on more than one occasion in my lifetime, although not in many years, but it doesn't make it any less obnoxious.

I haven't seen drunk people in public except at times/places I would expect to see them. Therefore they haven't really bothered me.

Frankly, I think both can be pretty equally obnoxious. Anytime your experience somewhere is disturbed by someone loud or annoying, it sucks.

Drunk people are obnoxious unless you are also drunk. I say drunk people are way more obnoxious, rude, etc.

I don't think I'm as annoyed by kids in public as I am with the parents and/or how they handle it. Kids are kids and will do what kids do. There usually is no reasoning with a child throwing a tantrum, but a parent telling back at the kid throwing the tantrum? I find the parent much more obnoxious.

As for drunk people- I have encountered them fairly often and they are annoying because they're supposed to be adults. One time on the train in ny a group of guys were spilling beer all over the train- I kid you not there were puddles of beer, and they were loud and disgusting. Ugh. At the last place we lived, our rental was a townhouse in a decent neighborhood. But the neighbors across the street were young 20-something's that had parties every night, all night long, drinking, telling and music blaring. That was way more obnoxious than my crying child.

I haven't come across that many drunk people being obnoxious. But I have come across completely sober adults being TOTALLY obnoxious.

Today I was in the library because I needed to kill a bit of time before I headed to an interview. It was very quiet there and someone picked up the phone and proceeded to have a 10 minute conversation breaking the relative silence of the room. It was so hard to concentrate and I was really annoyed. I am sure a Mom with a crying baby would have (a) not been in that part of the library since the children's area is downstairs and (b) removed her child from the situation if she were in that part of the library looking for a book or something.

The most annoying are drunk kids.

Drunk people are 100000 times more annoying to me.
