Did anyone else's newborn get dry skin on their face? My skin on my face is super dry so it's not surprising that my daughter would have the same issue. But I'm thinking it's not smart to be putting lotion on her sensitive little face when she's not even 3 weeks old yet. I don't know what (if anything) to do about it.

Would a milder soap help? Maybe the soap is drying out her skin? What about a humidifier?

LO was born 9 days late and had a lot of dry skin. I wanted to slather her in creams but the Dr. told me to leave it alone because newborns don't need lotions! The dry skin went away about 2-3 weeks later.

DS gets dry skin patches on his cheeks. I just use a wet washcloth on his face (and no soap) and a little dab of Renew lotion.
ETA: My pedi okayed it.

Cerave hydrating wash and cream worked wonders for my baby. she had very dry skin.

We don't use soap everyday. But we always put drops of baby oil in her soaking/rinse water.

DD had dry skin and it peeled for about 3 weeks. The doctor said to just leave it and it'll go away on it's own.

We don't use any soap on LO's face, and since stopping use of soap on her face she very rarely gets dry skin. When she does get a little patch we drab a little bit of a gentle lotion on it (we use CA baby).

We don't use soap on her face, and if she gets a bath every night, maybe skip the soap all together and do it every other day instead.

My pedi told me that I could gently wipe a wet washcloth over the dry areas and then apply cetaphil. It's pretty normal for newborns to be peely, though.

I would put a little bit of breastmilk on her dry patches.

Both my babies had peely dry faces which I hated. I'm a picker, so it would take all my strength (and Wagon Sr.'s urging) not to pick at it. I made sure to wipe with a washcloth for every bath to try and exfoliate it lightly, then followed up with California Baby sensitive skin lotion. Nothing really helped other than time! Now I use the California Baby lotion all over LMW and Aquaphor (Eucerin) on dry patches. We use Aveeno Baby all over WJ and Aquaphor on dry patches.

Our ped said its completely normal from being in fluid for so long and that lotion won't make a difference. It is a little lizard-y tho! He has bits peeling off all over.

My baby's face, hands and feet peeled. Lotion didn't help, but they did start putting lotion on her in the hospital anyway, when the nurses bathed her. Mennen Baby Magic at that, which I'm sure is really bad and all but I love the way it smells!

@prettylizy: I agree that Breastmilk is great for the skin. My LO would get some red bumps and the BM would have them gone in a day or so.

I don't wash her face, but I do glob cetaphil on as soon as she falls asleep for a nap. then she doesn't get her hands in it and then her hands into her mouth. she hasn't reacted to it, and her skin got better after a couple days!

My LO's entire body peeled - he got awful open cracks in his hands and feet. Our pedi said to use Eucerin or Aquaphor because they were so bad. Right now his eyelids are peeling, but I think that's the last thing (even the inside of his nostrils peeled - poor guy!).

@MamaMoose: A had a ton of dry/peeling skin from overbakng... we just let it be and it's pretty much all gone at 3 weeks... he did develop some baby acne this week, but i've been using breastmilk on it and it's like magic on his skin!
