When did you baby get this shot? i though this would be one of the 1st shots she got since there has been so much talk about the whooping cough outbreak. But when I took her for her shots today she was given Pnuemoccocal, Polio and Rota virus and the dr said she would get the dtap next month. If its such a big deal with this outbreak why wouldnt she get the Dtap first?

Spacing out vaccines VASTLY reduces the rate of adverse reactions - it was the responsible move on the part of the doctor. And in those studies, combination vaccines act like multiples. Also, my SIL got a severe case of whooping cough AFTER she was vaccinated, and a few months BEFORE an outbreak - a vaccine is not a guarantee your child is protected from an illness. I wouldn't be too concerned. Your child was just as likely saved from an adverse reaction as she is to get whooping cough.

I was told by my pediatrician that tdap is given at the 8 week mark. While PP can be correct regarding adverse reactions, not every baby has an adverse reaction or an incomplete immunity after a vaccine. It isn't instantaneous immunity, either - baby's system still has to form the antibodies to the disease after the vaccine is administered.
How old is your baby?

So far mine has gotten DTaP at 2 months and 4 months. He got several other vaccines at the same time and has not had any adverse reactions. I trust my pediatrician's judgement as to when she chooses to give the vaccines.

Did your ped give you a schedule for the vaxes? I have one, but my son is asleep in his room, otherwise I'd go and confirm.
