We are going to be transitioning my LO to a twin bed on the floor when she is about 28 months old. I am looking into bedding and it seems like everything I like is a duvet, but it seems like that might be pretty bulky for a toddler. A comforter/quilt seems like something she could manage more, but I can't find any I love that go with the room's paint color.
I am torn and only have about 1 month left to make a decision.
I have looked all over (land of nod, pb, zara, target, etc.)

Do you need one for the summer? It's too warm where I live to even bother with PJs on my kid!

Duvet, then you can change the cover more economically as your child gets older and wants a new style.
@blackbird: same. We don't use it in the summer, just an AA swaddle at most to cover them!

We are in MN. It does get hot and humid, but we crank up the A/C, so something is usually needed.
I also don't want to wait until fall when I need something because I will be in the trenches of newborn-dome.

There are some thin summer-weight duvets that you can buy. Ikea might be a place to start - I know they have several different weights there. One might be light be light enough for your toddler.

Do you have an IKEA? I would suggest their lighter weight alternative down + a duvet cover. We actually have a level 1 and a 3, and use them at different point of the year.
I tend to wash a duvet more often (just throw it in with the sheets), so I feel like it's a little cleaner.

I haven't really bought him bedding yet - he is three. He is still small enough that all the blankets we've had from infancy fit him just fine! (He is in a toddler bed though)

For a three year old I don't think duvets or quilts are too bulky. I think either is fine! Personally I like the softness of duvets a little more than quilts, but you can find soft quilts too.

I personally went with a comforter, the duvet seemed too bulky. My LO runs warm so I bought a lightweight comforter and then in winter throw on an extra throw if she needs it.

i think either is ok, but we went for duvet and cover. try ikea if you haven't already!

I'm totally looking for a quilt right now! Have you looked on Pottery Barn Kids? They have some nice ones! My main reason is I think a duvet will be too "fluffy" for LO's twin bed. Especially since we have a guardrail we are going to install. What color are you looking for? Serena and Lily also has some nice quilts ($$$ 
).
