    Thank you all for the kind thoughts. I had genetic counselling today and after another ultrasound and discussions with my doctor I will be holding off on the amnio until Monday. I am having a fetal MRI on Friday and those results will tell us what the situation is with the brain and help make the decision.

    The problem with the amnio is that I may not have answers for up to a month and waiting for too long before doing a reduction puts the other twin at risk. If the MRI doesn't show any clear answers then we will do amnio on Monday but of it shows that brain function is unlikely then we will go ahead with a reduction in the hopes that the boy will be okay.

    @plantains: Hope everything goes well with MRI!.

    We did amnio for my first twin pregnancy and found out chromosomal anomaly in 1-2 weeks in one of twins. They did full micro-array to confirm the details and it took another 3-4 weeks. We went with reduction but got monitored for preterm labor for the other twin up to 32 weeks. It was very stressful time for us but we ended up with healthy DD now turning 2. Good luck and hang in there!

    @xmaskidjr: thanks for sharing, so encouraging to hear that your DD is healthy! How far along were you when you had the reduction?

    @plantains: As someone mentioned, I do have more experience than I care to with enlarged ventricles. And the first thing I can say is if you haven't read my story, don't. We were a worst case scenario. How large were they? As @Ms. RV said, they can go down. Most borderline or mild enlargements apparently resolve themselves. That being said, we didn't have the soft markers, so I don't know a lot about that. Soft markers for what? It sounds like you're getting good information, and your doctors are being proactive and supportive, so I doubt I can add much. But we did wind up terminating, so if you need to talk, feel free to wall me. Lots of hugs!

    @Torchwood: so the ventricles are 14mm so fairly enlarged. In addition, the heart is on the wrong side and there is a single umbilical artery. There is also concern that maybe the corpus callus will not form but impossible to say at 17 weeks.

    @Mrs Green Grass: I was 17 weeks yesterday. My doctor said that up until 20 weeks the odds of early labour being induced by a reduction are 3%. He said after that point it jumps to 7% but that the data has been collected in blocks that may not be significant for us.

    @Mrs. Jacks: yes, my doctors are amazing. They have pulled every string to get me the appointments immediately so I don't have to wait for answers. Both my OB and MFM have said that they are giving me the info the way they would want their own family members to have it and they want to make sure that I end up with peace of mind regardless.

    @xmaskidjr: did your do amnio on both the twins? I am thinking of only doing if on the one with the issues and not taking any risk with the other one.

    @plantains: someone very close to me went through similar with her singleton at her anatomy scan. I don't want to go into too much detail, but a lot of the same things you have mentioned happened in her LO. They were told to prepare for the worst, that he wouldn't make it past delivery or if he did he would live a short life confined to the NICU. They decided to continue with the pregnancy regardless. I'm happy to say that although born full term but very very tiny their LO never even entered a NICU and is now a 28 mo old full of spunk!! He's still a little guy, but is doing absolutely amazing and has floored all the doctors. They still are not sure about long term with his brain development, but right now he is meeting every milestone for his age.

    @plantains:
    We did reduction at 22-23wk. It was very close to the legal limit in the state we lived which added more anxiety for us.

    In our case, doctors found no marker in early anatomy scans and we decided to do amnio due to my advanced maternal age (37yrs). They performed amnios for both twins. I think it's totally up to you if you only want to have one amnio for the twin you have concerns. However, no marker didn't mean no chromasome anomaly in our case.

    I'm really sorry you are dealing with this. I'm so glad someone who has personally experienced a similar situation has posted and can give you some guidance and support. It's great that your doctors are working to get you answers as soon as possible. Once you get all the information I hope you can work with your doctors to come up with the best plan of action for your specific situation and what makes you and your husband most comfortable.

    So we had a fetal MRI, another ultrasound and a fetal echo yesterday and now we have a lot more information. It looks like the main issues we are focusing on are structural as opposed to soft markers like we originally thought.

    Baby girl still has enlarged ventricles. It looks like they are being caused by a blockage between the third and fourth ventricle and thus will likely only get worse as the pregnancy progresses. She also has malformation of the spine and the doctors are unable to ascertain yet whether the spine will connect to the rectum. Lastly, she has cardiac issues. Stenosis of the heart with her pulmonary artery narrowing 2.5 more times than if should.

    All these issues at a gestational age of 17 weeks have led me and DH to believe that we will have to do the reduction. We are very sad but we don't want baby to suffer and we want to save the healthy twin if we can.
