Do you earn money from home, without the use of childcare?
I'm not asking about stay at home wives without kids yet or work at home moms who use nannies/babysitters/daycare/preschool to get work done.
What do you do? How many hours a week? What is your earning potential? And how do you get it done? (Nap times, late nights, etc.)

@cmomma17: check out The Penny Hoarder Blog! Lots of great ideas - it'll mainly be supplemental income but better than nothing. I've learned lots of great things to make some extra cash here and there.

Do you have any crafting skill that you could open an etsy shop?
Or if your husband works traditional 9-5 hours maybe you get just get a nights/weekends job?

I do contract work for my old employer sometimes. I do it at night and on weekends since I also work full time out of the home. I could never do a legitimate job at home
With no childcare. When I "work from home" on days DD is sick, I don't get much work done unless it's during nap or after she goes to bed. -
@cmomma17: could you care for another child on an occasional basis?

I would see what the unlicensed sitting is. I would love to pay someone for family style care of my baby. Cheaper price than a nanny but still decent money (I would pay 1k a month for full time). My son did it with a family friend and it was incredible.

I WOH FT, but I also do some freelance gigs after LO goes to sleep or on weekends when DH takes LO out; a lot of which I found on elance.
You have to hit a good gig, since you're going up against China and India, which promise *everything in the world* for pennies, and lots of blogs and job posters who don't care that what they get sounds like a robot who doesn't speak english wrote it.....but if you can write well and find decent employers, you can find really good work. You take on only what you want, so you could do it after the kids go to sleep (which is when I do stuff). I make a couple hundred a month doing this, and don't do that much. Building contacts after a job or 2 is key and very doable if you have decent writing/research skills!

I used to freelance maybe 15 hours a week without childcare (writing/editing) … maybe 500 a week on those hours? I managed to do most work at naptime/after bed or occasionally DH would watch LO. This was back when I had just one LO (who was a good sleeper). It wouldn't be doable now, which is why we have a PT nanny (and I've taken on more work, too).

Not exactly at "at home" thing, but I know someone who actually made some decent side money doing secret shopping. Maybe that is something you could take LO along with to do. My friend did things like tour apartment complexes, store visits, etc.

@cmomma17: I have a lot of nanny/childcare experience so I am doing a little babysitting right now. The care is in my home with my LO there too. I make about $75 a week for one afternoon of work. Which is a lot less then I would make working in my actual career field, but its still nice to have a little cash coming in on the side while being a SAHM.

@cmomma17: I have a ETSY shop & I sell Younique cosmetics. I "work" at Nap & after lo in bed for the night. It's the best part time gig in the world because I get to stay at home with my lo and make some extra $$ for the family

Yes. I started a drop off car detailing business 3 weeks ago. I hired 2 employees who do the majority of the work and I supervise and make money. And work on my tan. It's working for me and my babes.

DH and I own a branding and design business where we do brand strategy, web design/development. I work anywhere from 25-40 hours a week, depending on the week with no childcare. Just DH and I split our time (he has a FT WAH job as well) on watching our little one. She'll be 6 months at the end of the month.
I do a lot of early morning work to get work done and during naps. I'm not a night person. I take DD out during the late morning for play dates and have my meetings in the late afternoon since DH has no meetings during those times.
We've had our business since 09 and have been doing this work since 05 but last year was the first time I worked for myself full time.
As DH transitions out of his current role into joining me full time, I want to hire an employee and get my 200-HR YTT certification to begin teaching yoga. It'll allow me more flexibility to be with DD and still manage our business.

@Mrs. Lion: No big trade secret, just a good amount of experience and I found sites that had needs that dovetailed with my main writing niche. It's definitely not the norm for anyone just starting out, anyway!
One other thing to consider is maybe search engine eval if those companies are still hiring? It's pretty decent money if you're willing to put in some work on the front end.

I teach online classes at the high school level. I only have one LO and I usually work while he is napping or down for the night.

I haven't done it recently, but I used to do transcription for the police dept at home as a side job. I'd just do a couple hours in the evening instead of watching tv. I'd just get an email once a week asking how many hours of statements I wanted to do, and then would go pick up the disks. The goal was a 1:3 ratio for statement length to typing time, but it was pretty much honour system to report how long each took and paid ~$30/hr five years ago.

I use to be very ambitious and worked around the clock! After office hours, I did credit repair, credit disputes, and debt consolidation counseling. I would charge minimum $500 per file but had lots of follow up work to do once a case was opened. If it was just writing a single dispute letter and following up, I didn't charge that much. I have a mortgage and financial background so got referrals through friends and family. I can't commit to this anymore after DD but the supplemental income was very helpful. It helped pay for lots of expenses right after college. I recently helped a friend of a friend dispute an outrageous electricity bill for switching companies and she paid me $200. I didn't ask for it, she gifted it to me so I was very grateful.

As you know, I do Ava Anderson but haven't had to do an in person party yet. I joined for the discount actually and individual orders have given me a nice chunk of pocket change/supplemental income. I don't *depend* on it but use it to pay down debt!
I don't do much, to be honest - ha! But when I have an online party I work during nap and bedtimes.

Something I am really interested in is doing social media marketing for businesses. I emailed my wedding photographer about it and she is interested! Eek! Only problem is I have never done it before! So I need to convince her I'm qualified! -
@Mrs. Yoyo: @Mrs. Lion: $500/week for about 15 hours per week comes out to about $33/hour...? I make more than that per hour freelancing in social media marketing! But of course, you don't get paid for those hours you spend doing "admin," or lunch, or sick or vacation time, and you have to pay all your own taxes...

@daniellemybelle: that's awesome! I'm doing curriculum writing that is 40-60 per job but with writing and editing I'm only averaging about 25 per hour. I would love to know more about how you find these sort of jobs! my background is education, not writing or editing, so this field is pretty new to me...but I love it!
