How long did you wait to have a drink after LO was born? I'm 6 weeks pp, and I still haven't had anything. Do you pump and dump, or just time it to coincide with naptime/bedtime? Things have been pretty stressful here for many reasons, and I'd love a glass of wine every now and then. I'm just afraid since LO is currently EBF!

I had a glass of champagne the first night home from the hospital. I fed LO and then had dinner right away with the glass.
I had a few glasses at a wedding I went to last weekend. I pumped when I got home and then checked it with alcohol test strips.

Your fine to have a glass of wine. I EBF and enjoy a glass of wine a few nights a week. I usually have it while nursing him for bed or after he is in bed.

I went until he was about 9 months old because of his stomach issues. I noticed it did seem to make those flair up a little. After 9 months it was free game for as long as I could drive, I could feed.

I had my first glass of wine last night! I had to right after I fed her so I had about two hours.

Pretty sure I didn't wait six weeks. I usually had a glass (a pretty small one) while nursing a few times a week - a few sips were an easy way to feel like the "old me." I've read that if you can't feel the effects of the alcohol you're fine to nurse.

Not long. We split bees until she was about 3 months, but now I go by the "save to drive, save to nurse" rule.

My LC also told me, "safe to drive, safe to drink." I had a beer the very first week. I just time it around his feedings.

@Pepper: 2 weeks. (it happened to be Valentine's day) I had some milk pumped that I could use until my milk was clear. You ddon't need to pump and dump, unless you're engorged. Once the alcohol is out of your system, it's out of your milk. I bought the alcohol test strips so I knew for sure when the alcohol was out of my system.

I am planning on having a glass of wine in the evening again once I give birth. The lactation consultant at my clinic said a drink is ok. She suggested drinking while nursing because the alcohol wouldn't have time to get through your system yet. Like other PPs said, I have heard that if you would be ok to drive, you'd be ok to nurse.

If I drink I usually have one drink right after I've nursed her.

I think it was two weeks. I have never pumped and dumped. I go with safe to drive, safety nurse. The one night that I had more I was done drinking by 9 and she didn't eat till 730 the next morning so I wasn't worried.

My lactation consultant said the best time to have a drink is actually while you're nursing.

I think I had a beer the first week? I just try to drink it while I'm feeding her but honestly I don't worry too much about just one per the Kelly mom resources and my LC.

I think I had a few sips of beer a week pp? I agree with others that the best time to drink is while nursing, and you shouldn't stress at all about one glass of wine, even if he. Needs to nurse right after you finish.

I think I had a beer like two weeks pp, and then a glass of wine a night after that (while I was taking a bath). I usually had one immediately after I nursed, and went by the 'safe to drive, safe to nurse' rule.

I waited maybe 9 or 10 months? She had started STTN and I could feel comfortable having a glass or two if DH amd i are out after her bedtime feeding and I wouldn't have to feed her until the morning. I'm probably more careful than I need to be but I'm not a huge drinker anyway.

Three weeks. If we have people over, I just have one or two after LO goes to sleep or I will drink one after a feeding. I have never pumped/dumped, but I would if I were out for the night at a wedding or something.

I have a glass of wine every night after DD goes to bed.
Sometimes I will have a glass before she's in bed (like if we're over at someone's house for dinner). I abide by the rule that if I'm okay to drive I'm okay to nurse. Pumping and dumping, aside from in extreme cases (like, if you decided to get wasted), seems tragic to me, and all the LCs I've heard talk about it agree.

I had a glass of wine within a few days of being home from the hospital, and it was AMAZING!!! I've never pumped and dumped. I just stick to one glass (although I had two at a wedding I just attended, but it was over the span of like 4 hours). I was also told that if you can't feel it, you're fine to BF or pump.

I had a beer within a week because LO was sleeping for three hours at a time. Now that she sleeps for most of the night, I don't worry about having a few beers or drinks before bed on the occasional weekend.
If I drink I usually have one drink right after I've nursed her.
