We are closing on a new house at the end of the month. I'm leaning towards Edgecomb Gray as our paint choice but I'm nervous because I don't really care for gray paint. I'm more a beige person but I feel like it can look so skin tone.
The new house has white trim and oak floors.
If you have Edgecomb Gray will you please share? Or another suggestion. I'm also liking Valspar Homstead Resort Parlor.
Pic is one of the bedrooms so you can see the floor color.

I liked the idea of all the popular grays. I bought several and tried them on our walls and they just didn't work for me.
We have Behr's Light French Grey in all our rooms and I love it. It looks blue, or gray, or white, depending on the light.

@ladybee: so besides edgecombe im also looking at Revere Pewter and maybe Agreeable gray (SW). Have you looked at those. I think RP might be too dark for your space but you could try to lighten it.

I've used Revere Pewter in two homes. Depending on the time of day, and lighting, sometimes it reads more gray, and sometimes more beige, so might be a good compromise is you are nervous about gray. It's definitely got warmer undertones than a lot of grays

@ladybee: I think those three are all along the same idea. Now I just need to get samples and see how the light in the room makes them show off.

@ladybee: I think that if you like beige you should go for beige.
That being said, I tried to love gray and I just couldn't. I also hate beige. So my house is blue and it speaks to me.

@T.H.O.U.: look at balboa mist. Just slightly cooler than edgecomb, but less saturated than revere pewter. I have all three in different rooms, but the majority of my house is balboa mist. 
I also have Grey Owl, but regret that one. Reads green-are than I'd hoped.
@ladybee: edgecomb is pretty warm IMO. It isn't as cool as I'd prefer, but I used it in my kitchen and master bath to peacefully coexist with the marble tiling, which is warm. The rest of my house is Balboa Mist and two bathrooms are Revere Pewter, which are probably too cool for you. These pics (sorry for the mess!!) compare an Edgecomb Grey room to a Balboa Mist room

@T.H.O.U.: @ladybee: Exactly. A common complaint about RP is that it dries much darker than anticipated but I saw a blog about it being lightened to 50% and it looks much more airy. There are so many gray-beige colors to choose from!

@Coral: I did a lot of reduced saturations in my house and was very pleased! My painter said if you want the paint to look on your wall the way it looks wet in the can, reduce by 25% or more.

Our home has a lot of brown furnishings, and edgecomb gray matches it so well!! It is more of a neutral with very subtle gray undertones depending on lighting. It is a warm gray too, so it doesn't scream "gray"!
I probably tried like 25+ paint samples from Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams, Behr, and Dunn Edwards before deciding on Edgecomb Gray. It was a headache but worth it because we love it. I think it's best to get samples and paint swatches on your wall to compare. Colors can look so different in pictures, and can change a lot too depending on individual lighting and space. Gray is especially fickle. I loved balboa mist when I saw it, and thought it might be "the one", but when I did a swatch, it looked too lavender on my walls.
I also tried a sample of revere pewter lightened by 50% and it still didn't look quite right in my home. I think it would've looked great if we had more natural lighting, but our lack of natural lighting made it a poor match for our space.

I have edgecomb gray in my living room, dining room, and master bedroom, and love it. It definitely isn't too gray. You can see a distinct difference between these rooms and those that we painted a true gray. Trim in these rooms is white dove and floors are Jacobean.

edgecomb gray really doesn't read true gray at all. At least not cool gray. I have edgecomb gray in our nursery, guest room, and master bath. Master bath gets no natural light, guest room gets some, nursery gets a lot. It looks awesome in all three rooms. We have white trim and medium walnut floors. My parents just painted their kitchen and family room edge comb gray. They have wood trim, medium wood cabinets, and medium wood floors (and carpet in the family room). It looks awesome in all rooms.

@ladybee: This psot caught my eye bc we also chose EG for our new house and when we saw it in person had it painted over! It looks almost white, just FYI. Almost no color at all. Very very light. We switched to Revere Pewter.

We have it in our family room and daughters bedroom. I'm considering repainting our main floor this color as well. It looks great!!

@wrkbrk: im surprised you say it looks white. Maybe it was mixed wrong? Mine looks nowhere near white. This is in our nursery with stark white trim. Does your house have white trim?

@Littlebit7: Yes, it does. It is possible it was mixed wrong I guess? Or that the sunlight really bleached it out? That is NOT the color it looked like when it was up on our walls. I wish I had taken photos before we painted over it!

If you know you prefer beige, have you considered accessible beige? Our stager recommended it for our old house when we were selling, and I think it was truly more of a greige than a skin toney beige.

We have edgecomb gray in our foyer and playroom and I love it. It feels more on the beige side in my house. I have several friends who used it and it's funny how different it looks in different rooms but I like them all. You can see t here in different areas and lights.
We also considered Balboa Mist and Light Oak- light oak was paler and less gray but felt almost too white. Most of these swatches looked like nothing special at all in the store- I never would have picked them up if I hadn't read about them online. I highly recommend gathering a ton of swatches and taping them to the wall, choosing a few favorites and get samples and paint squares or poster board and leave it up to see what you like (not necessarily possibly if you don't live there already of course).
ETA: its looking a little more green in the photos than t really does. And that first pic is a work in progress with the new rug and bench we are painting and possible mirror.

Check out SW Amazing Gray if you like more of the taupey greys. We have floors that are a similar color and did Amazing Gray throughout. I was really happy with the color.

Whatever grey, greige, or beige you pick, just make sure you use Bright Ceiling White on your ceilings. Our builder painted the walls and ceiling of our entire first floor EG and it's like being boxed in. It just reads as dark and dirty notwithstanding huge southern-facing windows. When we have the $$, it's all getting painted Simply White.
