I kept seeing clips on Facebook yesterday and it was like watching SNL, only it was real life. Every question she either said she had no experience or she seemed really confused by, and yet she had this giant smile on the entire time. It was so bizarre.

She and her family are really the worst. Her brother started Blackwater for crying out loud. She has totally wreaked havoc on schools in Michigan. Her nomination is a total disgrace and I'm sure she's going to be approved anyway.

teacher/school librarian here. Her appointment is exactly like the crazy appointment of Rick Perry to head the department of Energy, which he said he previously said he wanted to completely dismantle.

-She's an enemy to public education. She wants public money to be given to religious schools for example (but how many Republican constituents would be happy for their tax money to fund strict Islamic private schools, I wonder?).
-This voucher thing. I'm not *against* charter schools in theory, but the voucher system is messed up. If any school- private, charter, or public--is to receive public funding, then they should *all* be subject to the same standards. Same for homeschoolers, many of which have supported these voucher ideas. They would like public money for their personal choices. Fine---but everyone in those schools should be subject to the same standardized tests, the same attendance rules, and the same rules regarding serving low income/minority/disabled/learning disabled children. No longer can private or charter schools permanently expel students for behavior or bad grades.

If public schools have to find ways to serve ALL students using the same amount of government money/student, then these private and charter schools should have to do the same. And homeschoolers who use vouchers for themselves have to also take the standardized tests and be subject to the same requirements for graduation.

It is absolutely horrifying.

What a joke. I'm so scared for what is to come over the next 4 years.

@MamaG: I personally think she's getting a lot more attention because of how unprepared and unknowledgeable she is. Sure, I might not agree the ideas of some (ALL) of his picks, but this one might be the most frightening. Her lack of experience and ability to answer simple questions just proves she's only there because of her family's donations.

The other thing that really bothered me was that the committee chair decided to restrict the senators questions and to hold the hearing BEFORE the ethics review has concluded, so they weren't able to ask about any conflicts of interest and they couldn't ask follow up questions.

My kids are students at a public charter and I am a teacher at a small private school. It will be interesting to see where education goes in the next four years. As a teacher and parent I am concerned.

It was awkward to watch and I was shocked at the type of questions she couldn't answer. I don't really care that her and her family had enough money to pay for college. That's great for them but if you are going to be in this position of power shouldn't you have an understanding of its mechanics.

Since No child Left Behind went into effect in 2002 there has been a debate about what is more important proficiency or growth and she had no idea what the Senator was even asking about. And the whole guns and grizzly bears thing, come on.....

@lilteacherbee: Unmatched? That is so funny since she admitted that she was confused on what IDEA was.... I am glad people are calling; hopefully, it can sway enough to prevent her from getting approved!
