I've got an epic pimple brewing in the middle of my chin right now. It's currently in the under the skin, tender and turning a huge spot red stage..... any recommendations to snuff it out? I'm a notorious pimple popper and I really don't want to get to that stage with this bugger.

I have no advice, but I'm just like you. I swear to myself that this time, I won't touch it, picking and popping never makes it better, ever.... and then I think, oh, but if I can just pop this...

I am another gross one. I just can't help myself!!! The Murad stuff they sell in Sephora worked for me in general but those big under the skin ones...I think they just have to run their course!!!

i heard a lot of great things about bye bye blemish (drying lotion) you can get it at Ulta and if you have a coupon its even cheaper

Another picker/popper here *hangs head in shame* I try to dry it out by putting the Clear & Clear Acne Spot treatment, but sometimes, those underground ones are too deep to treat. =(

If it's one of those underground, unpoppable ones, the dermatologist can actually inject them and they go away overnight!

@Alivoo01: I've got some Up&Up 10% benzyl peroxide on it right now, but I think it's too deep to do anything.

@LindsayInNYC: @prettylizy: definitely get it injected with cortisone! Usually, a derm will see you same day for this! I got one right after the bar exam (years ago, but I remember it vividly, my chin was swollen!) and I am so glad i did! Until then, HANDS OFF! :D.

Agreed- if you aren't KU you have lots of options. If you have a relationship with a derm, call and get the steroid injection. But if you don't, they generally don't squeeze in new patients. In that case, I have applied OTC steroid cream while it is still under the skin to try to reduce inflammation. Then, once it is on the surface, I use a spot treatment - those OTC 2% gels. Also, if you have access to it and again, aren't KU, an oral antibiotic called doxycycline can help. (Can you tell I have experience?? When I am stressed - this happens. It is the worst. And leaves discoloration after. Ugh)

Ugh, those underground pimples are the worst! No additional advice, just wanted to chime in that I'm also a pimple toucher/popper of the worst kind... I just... can't... resist!!!

@prettylizy: I get really bad cystic acne and the woman who takes care of my skin care regime told me to ice them and I swear it works! I ice them for about ten minutes at night then put product on them and by morning they are half the size.

If it is deep with no exit (no whitehead) , my derm told me that using a hot compress 3x daily will help it either drain or come to the surface. I do as hot as I can stand it...seems to help it stop from getting any bigger.

to get it out from underground (so you can go ahead and pop it, i won't tell), use ichthammol ointment ("black salve"). it's sold OTC at drugstores and softens the skin so the pimple can come out. it smells like burning rubber, and stains if you get it on your clothes, but it's the only thing i've used that works.

What works for me is to massage the pimple with a deep cleansing facial wash with micro- beads for a good 5 minutes, then follow up with witch hazel toner. It will go away within 1-3 days. i would repeat the above steps the next day and so on until it clears out. Good luck! You definitely don't want to try to pop it, it can leave scars on your skin.
