Can someone give me tips for using this thing? I need to go to the grocery store today, and usually I wear LO (so she will sleep) in a ring sling. But my back has been hurting and the Ergo would be more comfortable, but that insert overwhelms me!

There are a lot of videos on you tube but I'll see if I can explain it.
Lay the insert on the bed with the narrow/thick part towards you (towards your hips). Put the ergo around your waist. Lay baby on the insert on the bed and clip closed around the baby if possible. Don't worry much about where the legs are, just put baby's bottom kinda "sitting" on the top of the insert pillow. Once the baby is clipped in, you can kinda scoop her up and hold against your chest with one arm around the baby/insert. Pull one arm into the Ergo, switch arms, and then clip the neck clip. Adjust the babies bottom if needed (reach in)
I would practice at home on a bed before trying to do it when out and about. Taking it off I repeated the same thing.

I have this carrier and insert and i just followed the pictures that came in the box which is pretty much how @Thehistoryofus: described it. One thing I dont like about the insert is that its not great to use in hot weather.

I LOVED our ergo insert because I hated messing around with my moby in certain situations! I watched some videos on youtube, but basically did exactly what @Thehistoryofus: described. Good luck

I love my Ergo! I just watched Youtube videos and practiced a lot on the bed. Eventually I got the hang of it. Now my LO is big enough to use without it and it's so much less work!

I can put it on, but everything just feels so awkward and huge with the insert. LO is pretty long, so I tried putting her in with a blanket rolled up at the bottom and no insert... it was MUCH more comfortable.

@c.sassy: how old is she? You can pull the little pillow out of the bottom and use it without the big part if she has good neck control already.
It's a bit of a learning curve, and a little bulky, but I have so much less back/shoulder pain than when my first was a baby and I used a sling!
