If you use the Ergo with infant insert with your young baby, how do keep them warm outside in the winter? I'm going to have to start wearing DD (9 weeks) to do daycare pickups for DS since it is hard to take the stroller to daycare (lots of stairs). However, it is pretty cold so I want to keep her in a snowsuit, but I have problems fitting her in the snowsuit and using the infant insert, she just seems too bulky that way. My coat doesn't really fit around both of us if I keep it open, and I get cold doing that too. I'm not interested in buying a bigger coat for baby wearing. Pics welcome to show me how you baby wear in the cold!

Xander wasn't using the infant insert at the time, but I think our method would work. I just had Xander in a onesie, fleece footed pjs, and then this: http://www.columbia.com/Snowtop%E2%84%A2-II-Bunting-%E2%80%93-Infant/SN0213,default,pd.html and then had him in the Ergo. My coat didn't go around him and button, but I would hold it around him when necessary. Just him being against me kept us both toasty!

Aside from wearing a bigger coat and bundling the baby...
I have a poncho that will fit over both of us, I'll use wrap type cardigans for another warm layer.And I just ordered this coat...very excited about it.

Have you tried taking the pillow out of the bottom of the insert and just using that? The snowsuit might be bulky enough to provide some support to his upper body so you may just need to prop his bum up.

We used the infant insert, footed fleece pj's, a hat, and an infantino hoodie carrier cover (http://www.amazon.com/Infantino-Hoodie-Universal-Season-Carrier/dp/B005C9ODUW). Then I wore a fleece jacket I have that is too big for me, and zipped it around both of us. That was usually plenty. In fact, sometimes it was too much and LO would get really sweaty. The infant insert is pretty warm, and baby is also getting your body heat.

I used the jacket I used when pregnant, it was just a larger sized coat and it worked fine.
What about a carrier cover? Or a blanket over the the carrier?

@LemonLong: I second this. Either using just the pillow or using receiving blankets instead. They would prop her up enough.

We use a fleece snowsuit over her regular clothes (usually with a sweater on and fleece booties if it's really cold), with a hat and mitts, then we use the Jolly Jumper cover:
Usually we get to our destination (or home if we were out for a walk) and she's toasty...and it's been super cold here!
As for the infant insert, if LO's in a snowsuit, I agree with pp that you might be able to get away without it or with just part of it.

@Adira: I do have a fleece suit similar to that, so maybe I'll try it instead of the snowsuit.
@LemonLong: it didn't even occur to me to remove the pillow. Just did a test run and it seems like it could work. Now I need to try it with my coat. -
Just using the pillow part or a blanket and putting him in a snow suit worked for me. When it was warmer I got away with swaddling him in a warm blanket and putting a hat on him but it was well above freezing. I have a fleece jacket that I can zip most of the way over the ergo so I put that on and the my unbuttoned coat over that. I then wrap a large scarf/pashmina around us which sort of covers any gaps and covers the ugliness in the front.
