No but I'd love to go!
Just curious, why does he want to go to PR if he's not a beach person?

I have. There's quite a bit of tequila factories you can visit or a few nature preserve places. Awesome thing about Puerto Rico - you can use your cell like normal and not get charged for roaming fees. Yea! lol

I have only ever stayed in San Juan...it was close enough to El Yunque for a day trip there. We also did a bioluminescent bay tour and a day trip to Culebra.

@TheSwissWifeStyle: he said there is a lot to explore - I took him for his word - LOL
@Alivoo01: I know! I was in Aruba in January and just got my phone bill - $35 worth of text messages for 1 week - yikes
@looch: I don't know what a bioluminescent bay tour is but it sounds fun!

@Mamaof2: bioluminescent bay is where the micro organisms "light up" upon contact. So think of glow sticks that light up when you touch it and dim when there's no contact. Then relight when you touch it again. I've never been to the one in PR, but have in Jamaica. It's pretty cool.

I went last spring, and it was great! It's SO nice because you don't have to worry much about language and currency, yet it still feels like a different country!
There are PLENTY of things to do besides beach time. Definitely look into bioluminscent bay trips (it was closed when I went - I was so bummed!). Old San Juan is the historic part of the capital, and it's very beautiful and interesting. We also went on a tour to the El Yunque Rainforest, which was okay. I hear the golfing is pretty nice.

I went years ago with a bunch of my girlfriends and I have to say, while I really enjoyed the trip, I have no desire to go back. Although the beach in Culebra was probably the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. I think if you do research and do more tours through the rainforest etc, it would be a good time.

Loved Puerto Rico! You can do a lot that is not beach related if you want. The bioluminescent bay tour is amazing, plus you can hike the rainforest and/or visit the Arecibo Observatory (as seen in GoldenEye and Contact). I spent two weeks there in undergrad as a study abroad trip of sorts and had a great time.

I went as a teenager to San Juan. I thought it was a really interesting city.

We stayed in San Juan which is lovely. Did some walking around in the old town and I think a tour of a fort. We went to El Yunque rainforest which I HIGHLY recommend. We did a tour of the Bacardi distillery which was great. And a bunch of beach time. It was a fabulous and easy trip. Everyone spoke English for the most part and you don't change currencies from US obviously.
