... but then it started to grow on you? My parents have this rocker that I *think* came from my grandmother though I'm not certain Before DS was born it sat in their game room as an extra place to sit while others played pool. When DS was born they moved it into the spare bedroom they designated as his nursery and there it stayed until my parents sold their house. Then it made its way to my house and has been here ever since.
It started out in DS's room, then was moved into DD's room. DD's room recently got turned into the playroom but the rocker is still here. It's an antique - as in much older than I am - wooden rocker. It has wooden arms, wooden legs, etc but the seat portion of it is covered in this sort of burnt orange velvet. The back is too short for anyone to rest their head comfortably and there isn't enough back support unless you have a pillow there but...
But for some reason, after fantasizing about at least reupholstering it for YEARS I've come to realize I kinda like it. The upholstery texture has grown on me. Even the color. It's what makes the chair unique in a ugly yet beautiful way. Of course, right now it looks really bad because it's set up against grey walls with curtains from DS's room (switched his non-blackout curtains for her blackout curtains when we moved them into the same room). So the curtains don't match the walls or the chair and its making the chair not look good with the walls.
But I realized yesterday that the chair does go with the curtains I plan on finishing sewing and putting in here. In fact I think it'll look really good in here. Now I just need a coordinating pillow for the back support problem....
Have you ever had a piece of furniture like that or did you just reupholster/paint it?
