We are meeting my uncle's family for the first time this weekend. He married my aunt almost 15 years ago. We are really happy that they seemed to resolve their issues . We have a small family as it is so I'm really excited to add to our numbers! And LO will have some local family cousins to get to know as well. There are no other local kids in our family

Kind of.... My gran had a baby when she was young and she was adopted. She never told any of us (not even the kids she had afterwards) until her daughter found her 50 odd years later. All of a sudden we had an aunt, uncle and three cousins we'd never known about and meeting them was fab! have fun with your family!

Yes. My junior year of high school, my mother found out that she had three half-siblings through her biological father. They don't live near us, but we've visited them and they came to my wedding. We still don't know what happened between her father and my grandmother, but I'm so glad I have these new cousins, aunts, and uncles.
ETA: One of my aunts is a dominatrix and MMA girl, so that's added some flavor to the family dynamic.

My family is super close. The only estranged member was my moms biological dad. We didn't make attempts to reconcile, because honestly I didn't even know him. He passed a couple of years ago. I went to the funeral only out of respect.
His new family tried to tell us they loved us and such and such...but I was 20 at the time and didn't even recognize my grandfather in a picture. He made no attempts to ever contact us. My mom has a stepfather that she calls dad and that I call Grandpa that is more than enough of a replacement.

I have an uncle that was kind of shunned from the family. Last time I saw him I was in 6th grade. I just saw on FB that he came to my Mom's Aunt's funeral, so it looks like some reconnecting is in the works!
