I think DS is ready for a jumperoo or exersaucer to hang out in but I'm overwhelmed by the options. I've read the posts on here, and am torn between the jumperoo being quieter and maybe more fun versus the exersaucer having more long term potential. What did you choose between the two and are there any models you particularly like?

We've only had the jumperoo and DD LOVED it! It was the Fisher Price Rainforest one.

We have both! One for upstairs and one for down stairs. E prefers the exersaucer but in a pinch the jumperoo we have is fine. N loved the jumperoo. We have the baby Einstein jumperoo as well as an older model exersaucer.

We have the Baby Einstein jumperoo and LO loved it! He played in it almost everyday from 5-9 months.

DS loved our Baby Einstein jumperoo until he could crawl. Now he doesn't want to be confined to it for long. But he still uses it to pull up to stand and plays with the toys from the outside. My friend has a FP rain forest one and I like that the seat is deeper and narrower so it snugs the littler babies in better. But I would get whichever one is cheaper if you go the jumperoo route. We got ours on Craigslist. It just didn't last as long as I would've liked (usefulness I mean, it's still in great shape) to spend $80-90 on.
ETA: we got the jumperoo because DS loved to bounce (with us)

Fisher price rainforest jumperoo! We had both, and he really preferred the jumperoo, which also has stuff on it like an exersaucer.

Another rainforest jumperoo recommendation here! I never tried DS in an exersaucer but he was much more interested in the jumping than he was the toys so I think he may have been bored in the exersaucer.

A friend gave us their door hanger jumper and she hated it. Cried every time we put her in it. But she was obsessed with the exersaucer.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like jumperoo is more popular choice but depends on the kid. No doubt he will love whichever one we get second. Fortunately we have a great parents listserv so I can usually test and resell for the same price if he hates it.
Before he was here I was obsessed with small footprints and "design" for his gear. Now it's like the bigger, louder, and uglier the better!

DS loved his exersaucer. We had a jumperoo, but he was bored with it after a lil while since there's no toys on his.
