Have you ever done an exit interview? What sort of things did you talk about?

I did with my last job. Basically we discussed why I was leaving. I had resigned once before and several months later they came looking for me to come back with a substantial pay increase. I didn't have an exit interview the 1st time but they asked for one the second time. It was with HR and I was very honest about my concerns and reasons for leaving.

I have done one once, I would have liked to do more but for some reason they never seem to do them with HR employees. Usually they ask why you are leaving, where you are going, what your thoughts are about the company, supervisors, etc. and things you liked/disliked about working there.

I've done them...i talk about why i'm leaving and my personal goals and how I think this new position will help. I never burn any bridges, even if I want to bitch and moan.

@jedeve: I did most recently when I left my last job, 5 months ago. I was very honest with them about the HR reasons that led to my exploring options, but also about the positives, as well. 2 others left right after me and brought up many of the same issues. I would be honest with them about the whole leave/maternity/flex hours thing, but be careful not to throw anyone under the bus.

I've done several. The funny thing is, I always have all these things I want to say, but then by the time it's my last day, I'm all, "screw this! I'm out of here!" and I don't offer such great feedback... I just want to sign on the dotted line and leave!!

I dream about my exit interview (if they offer me one) and I will be completely honest (in an appropriate way of course) as to why I'm leaving.
