Hmm for me it is pretty much spot on until now So I didn't vote.

I originally wanted to BF until two/pump until one. I ended up BF until 21 months and pumping for 12 months. So I was close to what I wanted to do.

Lo is still nursing and she'll be 22 months next week. Much longer than I expected, especially since we had supply issues at the beginning! I wanted to make it a year, worried that I wouldn't even make it past 3 months, and some how have made it here and I don't know how to stop now, lol. I haven't pumped since 16 months, aside from using a manual pump for my own discomfort when I was out of town for a week (I thought we would wean but lo had other ideas when I came back )

I had an original goal of 6 months, and we will make it just over a year

I thought I would make it to 1+ years with breastfeeding, but LO had nursing strikes here and there since he was 4 months old. It was so painful to fight with him on something that actually really doesn't matter. So I gave up breastfeeding on his final strike at around 8.5 months, and stopped pumping at 10 months (I stopped because he never really like to drink a lot of milk, and I had a huge stash in the freezer and I was scared he won't finish all of them). I had enough frozen milk to last him to roughly 11 months. then he gave up on drinking formula/breastmilk altogether by 11.5 months. He is a great cow's milk drinker ever since (he's now 4)

So the whole journey was quite rough, unexpected and disappointing.... but the good days were good and I had good memories. People always said you never know when it was the last nursing session, but for me I knew I was going to throw in the towel (because it was not worth it to fight during nursing strikes with my baby anymore it was getting hurtful), so I know it was my last feedings toward the end, and I cherished and enjoyed everyone of them. That I was truly thankful for.

Longer with my first, as expected with my second. I didn't really have any expectations with LO1 - just thought I would give it a try and see what happened. We ended up going to 13 months.

With LO2, I expected to have a similar experience to LO1, and I did. We went slightly longer, to just shy of 14 months, but that was about what I expected.

I didn't expect to pump for longer than a few months and ended up exclusively pumping for 13 months with LO1. I assumed breastfeeding wouldn't work out with LO2, and we ended up breastfeeding for 18 months.

Longer with my first, shorter with my second!

@josina: yes definitely! And truthfully our supply issues are the reason we're still going-- I fought so hard for us to have any nursing relationship that I can't bear to stop as long as she still wants to nurse

I had zero expectations. I was going to give it a try and see how it went and if I hated it I had no qualms about stopping. I EPed for about 6 weeks.

I didn't have a plan or expectations since my family was all formula fed. I knew nothing about breastfeeding till I got pregnant and it was DH that said we'd be breastfeeding! I went in with an open mind and will to try, but wasn't against formula if it didn't work out.

We ended up nursing for a year and I pumped for 11 months! The first 6 weeks, I EP since DS was too small to latch. I ended up having over 1,000oz of frozen milk that I gave to a friend. I felt so fortunate and happy we made it that long! Since there were definitely days where I wasn't sure I was going to pump enough for his feedings the next day. Hoping to have a successful BF journey with DD also.

Longer! I weaned during this pregnancy, just 2 months shy of 2 years. DS would still be nursing if I let him

My goal was 6 months, we had a rough start, then a year, then 2! She self weaned at 2.5! Very happy, never thought I would do that. I feel like it is a.major.sacrifice, but I'm glad I did it.

With my first I had short term goals (4wk, 6wk, 3m, 6m, 9m) with a long-term goal of a year, and anything past that was lagniappe. We made it 15 months.

I've set the same loose goals for #2. So far we've made it 6wks (today). It'll be harder because I'm going back to work in 2wks so I'm figuring out pumping, too (I rarely pumped with #1 because I stayed at home with him for a year and a half).

I planned to bf for a year, but had to pump and did so for 11 months...so same.

DS1 - shorter. I had hoped to make it to 6 months at least. I made it to 6 weeks, then pumped til 4.5 months.

DS2 - longer. I had hoped to make it to 6 months and wanted to be done by 12 months. We nursed until 13.5 months - just weaned him a week ago.

First time, I didn't really have any expectations. I wanted to do it while on maternity leave but after that had no idea what my supply/pumping would be like at work. Luckily I was able to BF her for 18 months. My second child, we stopped earlier (which I was sad about) but still made it to a year.

If someone had told me I'd still be nursing my 20 month old twins, I probably would have laughed at them. Especially when we started supplementing before we left the hospital! But here I am, still going strong (and literally tandem nursing them right this second), with no idea how or when we would possibly stop. I wanted to get to a year. My new goal is to maybe find a way to cut back to a couple times a day once they are two. Right now they nurse on demand and sometimes that's 5 or 6 times a day.

Goal was 1 year and made it to 13 months. Hoping for the same for DD2.

With Dd I pumped for 11 months and bf for 15!

With Ds I stopped pumping at 9 months, I am still bf now morning and night and he gets frozen milk during the day
