I do not think that was an overreaction. I'm also delivering a fresh, new baby any day now so am full of irrational, hormonal emotional reactions However, the gathering as you have presented would be against stay at hime orders in our state.

@gotkimchi: yes, agreed. That's why I said , "with other people that have been quarantining"... it's definitely a bummer bc most of my friends are married and have at least one person in the couple working out of the home.

We do see limited family. We saw family today that aren’t in our bubble and had the kids wear masks and made sure they wouldn’t touch (ages 3, 4, and 6.5). We were outside so the adults just stayed 6+ feet apart. I wouldn’t do a gathering of 15–you also risk getting fined depending where you are.

My kids have June birthdays. I have to go back to work next week so WE are risky for everyone. Instead of a party they are each getting a Yes Day. So they are brainstorming and planning all the things they will ask for and that I will say yes to. Mostly the requests look like various forms of pasta and screens and my undivided attention. And we will do dinner and dessert with my parents who are in our bubble. My kids are VERY excited about this.

@MrsSRS: I was just telling DH about yes days earlier. I think we are going to try it with DS as a reward but maybe we'll wait for his birthday.

We saw my in laws for Mother's Day and it was the first gathering of any sort we have been to. It was <10 people, everyone has been quarantining and we were outside spread apart. I am hoping to have the same people over with a similar set up for DS's birthday in July.

It is all about your comfort level in my opinion so I think you made the right choice.

I don't think it's an overreaction (also wouldn't be allowed in my state).

I feel like even if it were, the worst that would happen is missing one year of in-person birthday parties, amongst many future opportunities to celebrate with family. But what if you had it and that was an under-reaction and people got really sick. The cost of underestimating the virus is so much worse than the cost of overreacting when it comes to parties, so I really don't think there's an overreaction possible...

Both of my sons had their birthdays during this quarantine time. We did not have parties, but my parents came by to give presents and eat cake with us on the porch. My parents have been isolated at home. The rest of the family has not been so isolated so we wanted to be careful!
