I have an Ergo but didn't love using the infant insert when my daughter was tiny. Does anyone have a recommendation for an easy to use, not super expensive carrier that is good for babies when they're tiny? I have a feeling I'll need to wear #2 a lot more!

I loved the K'Tan but it's a wrap...not sure if that's what you're looking for. It was upset easy to use and DS loved being in it.

The Moby wrap is the best for small babies, holds them tight but the fabric is so soft and comfortable.

I thought it was going to be way too complicated and cumbersome, but the Moby saved my life. I had a k'tan that just didn't seem to fit right, and I didn't love it, though I really really wanted to-- I think maybe I was in between sizes? But after a very short learning curve I got very quick at wrapping the moby and C felt so nice and cozy and secure in it. It was the only way she napped for months.
Downside, at least with a summer baby, is that it got hot in there. Never seemed to bother the baby but I was a sweaty mess by the time I took her out.

A ring sling. Sakura Bloom, Maya, and Sleeping Baby Productions are good starting points. Easy up and down, easy to nurse in.

I loved my beco Gemini but it's similar to the ergo without needing an infant insert. I would check out a ring along as they're pretty easy to use - I've never used with a newborn personally. I think a moby or ktan will probably be a good bet. I've never personally used either because they looked overwhelming and uncomfortable but I know many people love them.

I love the Ergo for my newborn, but carriers are such a personal thing. I suggest looking for a babywearers group in your city. You can often find them on Facebook, and they often have lots of different carriers to try out before you buy.

I really loved my olives and applesauce. It's not cheap, they run around $150, but I really really love it. It has a built in infant insert that has 2 levels to it. The carrier also goes up to 35? Pounds so you can use it for a couple years.

I love the wrap style carriers for the tiny ones
you can make your own just by cutting a 6 yard piece of jersey fabric in half lengthwise (this actually makes two). I sold my boba because i actually ked the diy one better. It cost about $20 to make two.

I never felt like I could get LO tight/secure enough in my K'tan or Moby, although between the two I vote Moby. But if you can spend a little more, there are some pretty awesome ring slings out there that work great for newborns! I didn't start wearing L a lot until he was a little bit older, but still small enough that the Ergo was awkward. I ended up getting a Pikkolo - it's very similar to the Ergo (also a soft structure carrier) but doesn't require a newborn insert - you're able to cinch it smaller and flip the waistband instead, and it worked much better for us!

I loved the ring sling in the early days. I had a Sakura Bloom. I liked the ergo better once DS got bigger, but not for the newborn days.

I really love the Wrapsody stretch wraps. They are a super-soft jersey knit which feels so soft and snuggly, but can be used even for back carries, unlike Moby or K'Tan and have a higher weight limit.

I like the moby fine for newborns. The ring sling always seems like I had to adjust it. Now that lo2 is ten weeks old, I just roll up a blanket in the bottom of the ergo for him to sit on and it works great! So much more comfortable than anything else.

Loved my moby for my newborn. I found my ring sling too hard to get her situated right in and she was way too small for my mei tai (prob needed an insert i don't have?). She's almost 16 weeks and I'm just now starting to wear her in the sling and mei tai.

I liked the Moby, but it gets so hot here that I could only wear it indoors in air conditioning. It was nice and cuddly, but I always felt I had to be careful moving around with it.
Out and about I loved the Ergo without the infant support. I just could not make the infant support work, so I used an A&A blanket as a swaddle inside the Ergo instead. Everything felt plenty secure and comfortable that way to me.

A loss the Ergo wrap and we recently got the new 360 carrier with newborn insert (less bulky than the original Ergo and you can face out - tho don't think I'd face her that way.. would make me too nervous).
