My favorite documentary ever is probably Spellbound, since I was a very serious spelling bee contestant back in the day. More recent favorites: Jiro Dreams of Sushi and Queen of Versailles.

I show documentaries to my AP students after the AP test. Are any of those good for school/discussion?

We usually watch Food Inc. although it's not streaming on Netflix anymore : ( This year we watched Forks over Knives and Bully. Bully is really good!

We've also watched The History of the Bloods and Crips and one about Meth.

Another really good one: "Little Dieter Needs to Fly."

Favorite nature documentaries include "March of the Penguins" and "Blue Planet."

@ladyfingers: It's AP English Language. After the test I just focus on social issues, so pretty much anything goes. The Dr. Death might work well for my 10th graders (high level class) when they read Night.

Almost anything by Ken Burns - Civil War, Prohibition,

Hiro Dreams of Sushi - I know someone on HB said they hated it, but I liked it. Don't watch it hungry, especially if you like sushi.

Beats, Rhymes & Life - doc on A Tribe Called Quest. If you like 90's hip hop, this is really good.

Food, Inc. - this almost made DH a vegetarian.

The Up Series - 7Up, 14 Up, 21Up (follows a set of Brits and interviews them every 7 years). 56 Up just came out
