My favorite neutrals (we recently painted a large home as well - we have cherry floors, white trim, and overall the home had a warmer look to it in terms of cabinets) are the following Benjamin Moore colors:

Balboa Mist
Grey Owl
Revere Pewter
Edgecomb Grey

I played with the saturation to get shades lighter or darker as needed. I'm pretty happy with all of them, except for Grey Owl (which I loved on paper but is reading very greenish in our master bedroom)

Benjamin Moore eddecomb grey. It's a totally neutral gray, not too warm, not too cool. We have it in three different rooms that all get totally different light (west facing sun, east facing shade, bathroom with no natural light) and it looks amazing in all. My parents just painted there entire downstairs with it (living, dining, family and kitchen) and they have warm wood trim.

Our kitchen and living is Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter and Baby Fawn which go together really well but separate the space.
Our bathrooms are Gliden Barely Jade, a greenish grey, which I love.

Revere Pewter is my favorite go-to that looks good in literally ANY house (we've put it in 3 houses we've sold recently including our current house) but Edgecomb Gray is another good neutral. I don't have as much personal experience with that one, though.

The majority of our common areas are Wickham Gray by BM. We also have used Palladian Blue, Stoneham Gray, and Breath of Fresh Air. All are light and airy feeling.

We swatched all sorts of gray and had the painters back three times for swatching and grays did not work - it all looked like concrete! I guess it's the lighting. We went with SW Grecian Ivory for our main neutral and SW Poolhouse for our accent. We love it and it works in all our spaces. We have a single story ranch with high ceilings in the main living spaces and master so the accent color is really soothing but gives a nice spark.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: My decorator friend suggested Balboa Mist to us (It wasn't even on my radar) and I LOVE it too - it's almost our whole house, except for areas that needed something a little warmer (Edgecomb Grey in the kitchen) or darker (Revere Pewter in a few bathrooms). I SOOOO wish I'd done balboa in the two bedrooms where I used grey owl!

This is a secondary swatch wall in our house. Balboa Mist at the top, then Pale Oak, then a non BM white color, then Revere Pewter. The left white is Swiss Coffee and the right is White Dove.

@PinkElephant: interesting you say that. I just picked up Grey Owl sample for my son's room. I have Revere Pewter and Pale Oak swatches on his wall and it didn't feel right. I'm probably going to use Balboa Mist in the second guest bathroom, which is a Jack & Jill. If we have more kids I doubt I will need to change the color. It's so good!

Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams, and I think Silver Sage by Restoration Hardware (can is at home). I've also used Revere Pewter with success.

I picked out a color by Benjamin Moore that no one ever knows, it's called Sea Salt. It's greige, not to be confused with the Sherwin Williams color of the same name.

I really wanted something bolder, but we didn't have any furniture and I didn't want it to be too dated.

I've tried most of the BM colors everyone is suggesting and my advice is to do test swatches. I though I'd love revere pewter since it's so popular but it looked slightly purple in our rooms. I went with Edgecombe gray but also like Stonington gray too. I painted my kids rooms with behr colors I'd used before and found that he Behr covered better than the BM.

Oooh I know the answer to this question! The last two paint colors we used (for our living room and for LO's nursery) have me completely in love with them, and they've been on the walls for a couple years now.

They are both just so, so gorgeous. The Wickham Gray reads as just slightly light blue in our living room and it's the best.

@avivoca: Our downstairs hallway and stairway is Palladian Blue. It is lovely. We used to have the living/dining in the same color but after a few years the blueness of it started to feel too bright to me and I wanted something more of a gray. I still feel the blue is perfect for entryway/hallway/stairs though.

We have SW Amazing Gray throughout our downstairs and BM Upper West Side in our bedroom.

Yet another vote for Edgecomb Gray, Palladian Blue and Revere Pewter

@Anagram: we have SW Alabaster as our trim color. it works really well both with warm and cool tones!

Our main room is an uglyish beige that I don't love.....but I'm kind of afraid to paint by myself, which is why I want to start with the trim (which really needs it). Would Oxford White be too white for the beige wall? What we have now looks pretty white to my untrained eye. I don't have any decent pics on my work computer, but it's this color.@oliviaoblivia:
